Give me some Sound!!!!!!!!!
Hey Guys!
Wife here of Stang78....(not him) I got a question for ya's. I have a 2000 Cavalier..yes it's a Chevy... I wanna make it rumble when I step on it anyone have any good tips 4 me? Come on I know you know what will make this thing roar please give me some insight. My cousin said a Flowmaster muffler will make it sound like an airplane?? Is that a good thing or bad thing?? Does anyone know if I can put glasspacks on this car?? Please Help!! Thanx! Shelly |
I don't want to sound like a prick, but basically any exhaust you put on a cavalier will make it sound like a.....cavalier. At it's best it'll have an annoying high pitched buzzing tone that'll shatter the ears of all those you pass by.
-although- you could make it have a deeper tone and not that horrible raspy noise if you stay away from any exhaust that ends with a resonated tip. Basically if you put in a high flow catalytic converter, got mandrel bent exhaust with slightly larger piping (bent smooth without the dimples) and a high flow muffler (like a flowmaster among others) with a regular pipe coming out (doesn't enlarge at the end), you may be able to get away with it having a deep exhaust note like a forklift does (forklifts around my work don't sound too bad for 4 cylinders). But for the love of god, stay away from ANYTHING labeled SPORT COMPACT. Another thing to give it a deep tone when you step on it that's quiet when you let off is some sort of tubular intake hose with a high flow air filter like a K&N, or just a conical air filter at the end of the intake tube would give it a deep sound when you gave it gas. yes, don't buy anything with a large tip, then it will just sound ricy and make you go deaf. Just look at exhauses with normal size tips, or you could just take a broomstick to your muffler

Get a Borla or Dynomax muffler. It will still sound kinda raspy but not nothing like a ricer with a 10' coffee can.

I have a friend of a friend who just piped out his beretta. He's got headers then side exhaust...no cat. I knew it was him when he came down the road sounding like a DR Chipper. Not the kind of sound I'd want my car to have. But then another guy came by with a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am GTX. Now thats a nice exhaust note not to mention its faint whine from the rootz http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif. My sugestion...find out what that car uses for its exhaust and duplicate it.

Borla mufflers are the most $$$ of any Dynomax muffler should be better on the $$$

Guessing $80-$115 dollars. But there the only muffler with a 1,000,000 mile warrenty.

Can you guys say overkill? Why would anyone pull a whole custom exhaust job on a cavalier for like 400$ just to make noise? Try this. JC Whitney and other places sell exhaust cutouts. Basically have a muffler shop weld it in and it is switchable from muffled to absolutley no muffling(loud as heck) 20 bucks maybe plus install charge

If you also want to make it fast a Z24 engine and a turbo kit could a lot. I personally don't know of the differences between the Z24's engine and yours, nor do i know anything about cavaliers, but just an idea.

We all have to have second vehicles next to our stangs. Mine happens to be a 97 cavalier. Good reliable car. Anywho, I had some of the same aspirations as you do for your 2000. I found a very good website that beleive it or not specializes in cavaliers. www.rksport.com They have everything from exhausts to intakes to nitrous kits. very in depth site, you can anything you could imagine from there for your cavalier. when you go there, they have an exhaust that has dual tipped dual exhaust. In actuality, it is the one pipe back to the muffler, and then four pipes out, two to each side. sounds f-ing mean, and adds a little punch too. Another big one is the K&N. I ripped out the stock box, and replaced it with a conical K&N. Car sounds deep, and added more punch than the exhaust. hope this helps.
