Post GLX Production #'s ?

I was reading on another message board that the production #'s for the 1983 GLX 5.0 Convertibles were 50 and under and that they fetch 10,000 grand in excellent condition. Anyone confirm this?

I don't mean to sound like a sceptic, but i seriously doubt that. Basically the only collectible early 80's mustangs that have any demand are the anniversary mustangs ('84) with the GT350 stripes (more valuable with the 5.0L than turbo 4). The '79 pace car, the '84 to '86 SVO, maybe even the early 80's Cobra, but unfortunately your car, although it may be pretty rare is probably not worth all that much just for the fact that it's not a special production car and many people don't specifically look for your car. Because of the options on my car, mine is fairly rare as well (i think only 5,000 5.0L LX hatchs were made in '84 from what i've read, and mine has REALLY odd options), but unfortunately it doesn't stand out enough from the others to really fetch any value (plus my car is beat up, so that disqualifies it instantly).
The only way to figure out just how rare your car is, is to find out the exact production numbers. Now if your car was a GT and was a convertible 5.0L the value would be substancially higher. I believe '83 was the first year for convertibles, but i may be wrong, so that may be the reason for the small production numbers. Maybe in 15 to 20 years your car may fetch quite a bit of money, but i doubt too many people would pay 10,000 for your car when they could get any of the other rare vehicles for much less. I may be wrong and your car could fetch quite a bit of money, and in that case i hope i'm wrong so it works out for you

-for the people who haven't heard of GLX's- They're the LX's of the early 80's, and i believe there also was a GL model (ford changed their badges to a standardized LX/GT mid 80's for nearly all models). I believe there were also GLX and GL Fairmonts/Zephyrs/LTD's/Marquis's, etc.
I had people tell me "they didn't make 5.0L LX's in '84" and all i can say is "that's what's on the back of my car and on my vehicle registration, so that's good enough for me."

Thank you for your input!. I know that they made about 950 GT convertibles for 83'but I think that they made alot less of the GLX 5.0's. The difference between them is only cosmetic. True?

I had an 83 GLX. It was the first year they brought back the convertable. They were even sent off from the production factory and made into convertables. Also the first year for the T5, mine had one it had a 2.95 first gear. They had 175 base horsepower, 10" clutch, manifolds instead of headers, non-roller motor, single exhaust and slapper bars instead of quad shocks. Another interesting fact was that they T5 cars came with 3.27 gears in the 7.5" housing. I don't think the production numbers were quite that low but if they were I wish I had mine back. I traded it in 95 for $2500. It sorta made me sick because I had invested close to $9000 in the car from 1991 to 1995 that includes the cost of the car. Well if you have any more questions on them if I know the answer I would be glad to help out.

GLX, you are correct, the GT's only had GT decals, striping, and fog lights if i remember correctly to differentiate it from the GLX.
