how to replace gas tank filler tube grommet?
Hey, i'm trying to replace my grommet but I can't seem to figure how to get the new one on or the old one off(well i could cut it off but i wanna do it the right way). How should I go about replacing this? This is for my 95 gt convertible if that makes a difference. Thanks a lot.

I'm not sure about a 95 but on my 88 I'm pretty sure you have to drop the tank
I had the tank out and put it back in and after that the grommet started leaking and I dropped the tank again to change it, couldn't figure any other way to do it Hope there is an easier way but I wouldn't count on it

Drop it...
Yeah, I have to agree. The easiest way to tackle that one is to drop the tank. It's only the 2 retaining strap bolts. Just make sure you get as much gas out of it that you can. Otherwise it becomes difficult to handle.
Good Luck.

Yup, I just replaced mine last week. Drop the tank and the filler neck just slides in and out. Pop out the old grommet and put in the new one. Btw, I used a floor jack under the tank to help lower and raise it back into place. It works really well....I have even dropped the tank before by myself using this method.

I cheated...
Mine was leaking on left-handers, and I got black flagged (must pull into pits) when I was at the track. I simply used and ENTIRE tube of RTV around the gasket, and voila!

it's funny some of the **** you can come up with when black flagged in the middle of a race. Just rig it up and get back out there!
