Gt-40 crate motor w/stock intake?
Guess what guys this is what i got....gt-40 crate motor (345hp), bbk long tube headers, off road h-pipe, 19lb injectors, fuel pressure reg... how restrictive is the stock ho intake...what will be the differance in power inbetween the gt-40 intake and stock intake.... 1/4miles time and hp wise
thanks alot raini |
I think it would be a 20 HP difference and about 2-3 tenths in the 1/4. It would hurt you on the top end more than anything.
Get the Explorer intake for 200.00 on ebay. |
ditto
the stock intake is VERY restrictive if you have even a set of ported stock heads, let alone some GT40's or better just to give you an idea of how it restricts a pretty heafty motor: i went to a dyno session with a friend of a friend who had a GT with a 347stroker with ported edelbrock aluminum heads, TFS stage 2 cam among other goodies, but for some reason the guy that built the car put the STOCK intake on it. This motor with a good intake would easily see 330-350hp to the wheels. Wanna take a guess at what it made with the stock intake? 227rwhp @ 4700rpm 286lbft @4000rpm very very sad we then bumped the timing from 10deg to 14 and picked up quite a bit, but still no where NEAR where it should be. Is that enough to scare you out of the stock intake?:D |

I agree that the stock intake is restrictive, but I think there may have been some other issues with that combo. That number seems WAY to low for a 347 with good heads & a cam. How about a dyno update with nothing other than a different intake. I think you might be disappointed in those numbers, as well. |
I know that they seem way low, but I was there, and I have a copy of the dyno graph
The hp went up to 262 and the torque went to 320, which is an AMAZING jump from just advancing the timing, but its still way low, and I'm guessing that the main reason by far is the intake that he had on it. He never bought a new intake, and sold the car, so no one knows what its putting out now. |
hmmm ok i think i am going to change the intake in a few weeks or so i am going to see how it is when the trans arrives
|
ive gone 13.0s on stock intake,tb,mass air on motor and juices it to mid 11's..that 347 soulds like something was messed up..that was with just heads and a little alpabet cam
|
in simple terms the stock intake is crap.. has no high RPM whats so ever when it comes to N/A motors. GT-40 is prolly the best lookin manifold but a bit pricey.. i'd go with trickflow or edelbrock
|
well seeing that the motor is a long block gt-40 motor i might as well spring the extra money and get the gt-40 intake
later guys |
The GT-40 is a nice intake. Even though it relatively old in terms of intakes (with the new Trickflow's, Edelbrock's, Holley, etc), but it still is the best looking intake and makes great power throughout the power band.
A little pricey, but I like it on my engine. ;) E |
