GT-40 Heads question....

a buddy wants to sell me his GT-40 Heads off his 94 GT.

the previous owner said it was a GT40 crate motor....and my question is....are these the cast iron heads or the aluminum ones? anyone know which came on the crate motor?

ahh!!

Summit carrys a 345hp Crate with GT-40X aluminum heads...You can tell by looking at them if they are aluminum or cast...

I'm not sure about the X's but the gt-40p's have a "p" stamped in the front of them.

A few people have gt40p heads for sale down here in cali for less than $500. Is that a good deal?

the gt40p heads were iron right?

Are they a good head?

I think summit has p's for 525$ not exactly sure, and i've heard good things about them, personally im going with at least a 1.90 intk valve and aluminum head, yes p's are iron off the explorer/mountanier line, lots of potential though, many people perfer iron, i want aluminum for lightweight.

you can get them unmolested brand new for 475. If they've had port work or polishing or anynthing like that and there still under 500 then its a good deal.

There were both a Ford GT40 cast iron and aluminum engine you could choose from, so who knows. I know the cast iron heads (i just bought some) have "GT" cast into below the exhaust ports (forget which side of the head). Usually aluminum is ALOT lighter color than cast iron and the block and heads will be different colors. This is all i can think of.
