Is it hard to replace coil springs? Should I pay?
I need to replace the coil springs in the rear on my 90 5.0. I was going to have it done but it will cost me $200 just for labor. I was looking at steeda springs I have koni shocks already. I have never done this but have done alot of mechanic work. Should I attempt this task or is it worth the 200 bucks? Also, how about the front springs?

Rear springs are easy. Put the car on jackstands and let the rear axle drop all the way down. Put a floor jack under the lower control arm and then take the bolt that connects the control arm to the axle out. Lower the control arm and the spring will come out. You might as well throw some new spring isolators in while you're at it, maybe even new lower control arms with the $200 you saved on labor. Just put the new spring back in, make sure the pigtail on the bottom points to the left and jack the control arm up till the bolt holes align. Some times I have to use a ratchet strap around the axle to help line them up.
Front springs are tougher. I always rent a spring compressor. Probably could have bought one by now. ------------------ 93 GT, CCM long block, GT40P heads, Crane 2031, 1.7 RR's, Moroso cold air, 73mm Vortech, 65mm TB, Cobra intake, 24# injectors, MSD 6AL, MAC GT40P headers, 2-1/2" BBK H-pipe (w/cats), Flowmasters, 3.55s, B&M Ripper shifter, Black Magic fan |
Ya, the rear springs are really easy. just put the car up on jackstands and then use your floor jack to jack up, remove bolt, and then lower control arm. I would say get some new sprin isolators while your at it.
