Post Hardcore burned oil through vents...

Hey guys... this isn't about the stang but maybe one of you has some ideas. It's about my Taurus (V6). Very often I'll be driving and all of a sudden burning oil smoke will blow through the vents. It is so thick that sometimes I can't see (literally), the smell blows, and cleaning the inside of the windows every 4 days is downright annoying. It usually last about 15 seconds then goes completely away. I am 100% sure it's burning oil and not coolant. I know the car has a pretty bad front main leak. The million dollar question is how does it get into the vents. The only way I can possibly see it getting into the vents is if there is a hole in the underbody and the venting system. This seems highly unlikely. I haven't looked yet to see if there is anywhere the smoke could be getting into the vents. Any ideas... this is a rather bizarre problem. Thanks.

Bob

It's getting in through your cold air intake for your heater system. The Taurus has the intake at the bottom of the windshield I think, the smoke must be coming in through that intake.

I've never heard of it getting so thick though.

Well for what its worth, I used to own a 1992 Plymouth Sundance, and had the same problem. It wasn't so thick that I couldn't see, but you could see the smoke coming in through the vents, and could smell it too. It also was off and on, like yours. Turned out I had a blown motor for the most part. Getting real bad blow by, pistons were burned up pretty good and the list goes on. Not saying this is your problem, but it was with mine, and I had the smoke too.

Thanks.. I figured it out after a little bit of thought. I feel like an idiot. It is exactly what Unit said. I have to get under there and see if I can patch up the front main. Thanks guys.
