Harmonic balancer trouble

Hello everyone. I'm currently doing a cam swap and I'm trying to take off the harmonic balancer. In the process of taking it off, only the outer part of it came lose. Now I can't get the smaller piece off, because when I turn the harmonic balancer puller, it just turns the whole motor! What to do?

I had this same problem when I was installing my underdrive pullies. I had the pulley puller on the crankshaft pulley and was trying to remove it. I didn't know what was going on and then I looked real close and noticed there was a washer on the crank pulley. Removed the washer and then it pulled off just fine.

Hummm, two pieces? As far as I remember when I changed my balancer its a one piece unit. There is an inner and outter section, but there pressed together and not ment to come apart. Sounds like you ruined the balancer. Now, not to put you down, but did you remove the crank bolt inside the center of the balancer? This needs to come off first before you try removing the balancer. Remember its reverse thread too.
