Hatch Release Button

Hey does anybody know why it doesnt work? I am talking about the one that is inside the glove compartment above the gas cover release. The striker (Ford Term for the bolt that the hatch thing grabs onto) was broken on mine so i bought a new one but it still doesnt work. When i had the old striker it worked once when i wrapped tape around the bolt so it would hold the hatch down LOL. Now it doesnt work at all. Anybody know why?

Thanks

Does the solenoid actuate when you push the button? If not, check fuse and wiring for power at the solenoid.

Does it open fairly easy using the key? If it actuates, possibly the hatch adjustment is too tight and it won't release.

How can I tell if it activates? When i push the button it does not feel like there is anything there whereas with the gas release I can feel something when i push it.

Thanks

quick question its sounds stupid but is your car on or on the acc setting when you push the button because it has to be for the hatch release to work. I didnt figure this out till i had my stang for about a week when a friend pointed this out. Other then that i have no idea's but hope you solve this problem.

One way to check is to put a volt meter + on the selenoid and the - to ground. Have someone push the button in glove box and see if you've got voltage. If voltage is present - that tells you the fuse, button in glove box, and wiring works and the selenoid is
probabily bad. If no voltage check fuse, switch and wiring. To test button, take your meter again this time put in to ohms and put leads across the switch push the button in and you should read at zero or close to zero ohms. If you get no reading - that'll tell you the switch is bad.

No i did not know that the accesory had to be on for it to work. I figured it didn't since the gas cap doesnt. Time to go check...

Thanks,
Nick

Ok i feel like an idiot now LOL :) That was the problem. I guess i figured that the hatch should release without since the gas door does but i guess not. Maybe i should of read the manaul. :D

Thanks all,
Nick

Don't feel bad. I didn't think mine worked for a while either. :p
