Default Have gear ? on 8.8 Cobra IRS rear.

I found a guy that will install gears in my Cobra for $200.00 that works at a Ford dealership

Now all I need to do is buy gears. Does the IRS 8.8 take the same ring and pinion gears as the solid axle 8.8.

I am stuggling trying to decide which gears to get 4.10's 4.30's or 4.56's.

Thanks,

Default GEARS

I'd check out this thread. http://forums.mustangworks.com/showt...threadid=33002

3.90s have my vote. I have 3.73s and love them...but if I could do it over...I'd go with the new 3.90s they have available for the 8.8 Mustang rearends. Not sure about the differences with the IRS rear though.

I think your Cobra is more of a street car, right? If so, I would go with the 4.10's. Good acceleration, but not overkill for the street/highway use. Plus, it would be a hell of difference from the 3.27s that are in it now. (I believe 3.27's were the stock gear?) 4.56's would be great for a strip Cobra or at least one that sees little street/highway use. JMO.

As for the gears working w/an 8.8 IRS, the Ford tech that is doing the install for you should know.

Yes it is more of a street car. 4.10's....... drag radials and full exhaust should make it a pretty potent street car though

I will get a hoild of the tech tonight and ask him. I just didnt want to bother him at work and figured one of you guys would know.

Thanks,

you probably already found out the answer but I bet the modular madness crowd would know more about the IRS than the windsor power folk.

I know you are in here a lot and might not have thought about it but you might get better answers for your cobra questions in the other forum.

In the mod madness forum if you ask a technical question it will have 100 views and no replies.

I browsed around in there a few times but don't really know much about the newer cars and couldn't really care but now that you mention it that is the sort of atmosphere I found there. They aren't real technical. (I know that is kind of general and can't include everyone that visits there)
