Default HCI question (long winded as usual)

My 89 stang has 241 rwhp and 281 rwtq. the power peak was at 5200 rpm. i was real level headed about these numbers thinking i was ok. here's the problem, ported e7's stock valves, e cam, and a performer RPM fuelie intake. my good buddy has an 89 like mine with 4.10 gears bbk long tubes, bbk ORX pipe and flowmaster kit. mine has hooker shorties bassani orX and flowmasters. his put down 218 rwhp@ 5000 rpm and 279 torque @ 3500 rpm. my question is, what am i doing wrong shouldn't i have quite a bit more that him, there is only a 23 hp difference and same torque. around town it feels like his car could walk all over mine? any help or advice would be appreciated. my thought is severely mismatched parts.

I think the difference is with the long tubes. I think if you had long tubes you would have the hp advantage you're looking for.
As far as his "feeling" like it has more power than yours around town, that might be because of his lower gears.
You didn't say what tranny you guys had. A stick shift car has less parasitic losses than an automatic. If you have an auto and he has a stick, that could be why his seems like it has more power.

Are you going? Look for me if you go. I'll most likely have the only 82 GT there. It's a black T top with fiberglass cowl hood.

23 RWHP is a huge difference on cars with less than 300 RWHP.

You have a good intake and cam get some good heads and put down 300RWHP.

You dont need long tubes to haul @ss I am running some 1 5/8 equal length shorties and have went 109mph @3000ft in the 1/4.

My car made 219RWHP/290RWTQ SAE after Flowmaster 2.5" catbacks and porting the lower intake - no other changes.

Don't go by the SOTP, it will fool you. He probably has a stronger low-mid than you duwe to the RPM intake.

Take em to the track or run them side-by-side in a street match and see what happens.

thanks guys, i'm thinking afr 165's or edelbrock performers, they are both stick cars, and 82 GT how did numidia go? i have to plan far in advance to get to the strip, my woman runs micros at selinsgrove on friday, and her dad runs sprinters on saturday. let me know next time you're going.

I didn't go last Friday because it started to rain as I was ready to head up there and I thought "Screw this...it's going to rain off and on all night and I'll be just wasting my time". So I made plans to go out to supper with my g/f and wouldn't you know...the sky cleared up, the sun came out and it didn't rain again all night! I was pissed

BUT...I do have plans to go this Friday night. It's probably not enough notice for you but I plan on being there if you happen to get a chance to go. I'll leave you you a PM with my cell number in case you ever want to hook up and go racing or something.

Run your Hp numbers on the "Analyser" program here at MW. I bet you'll be suprised at the different 1/4 mile times that the program generates. You may get creamed on the 60' times on a drag strip program or at the actual track. My bet is that the 1/4 mile time slips will tell the rest of the story.

With un-equal shorties i trapped 107 and some change, 3150 weight.
I Dont know my dyno #'s yet, im hoping somewhere around 280 hp 300 lb torque, but thats shooting high, and im doubtful....

With those 1/4 numbers, I would dare say you have over 300hp easy. I would guess about 330-340 flywheel, unless you're talking about RWHP......
