I've never done it myself but would assume that would help with the heat problem. I'll be getting headers soon, and thats what I plan on doing, sorry I couldn't be of more help. (also, watch out for burning plug wires, I hear about that a lot)

They also sell heat shielding for starters. Pg 124 in my catalog. DEI part# 010402
Probably a lot easier than wrapping the headers ------------------ 347, 279/284 .493/.510, TFS TW, Stealth, 750, Flowtech hdrs, Dr. Gas X, 2 Chmbr Flowmaster, MSD 6AL-Dist.& SS coil, Art Carr C-4, Currie 9" w/3.55, alum Drv Shft, susp mods, 4 wheel power disc In a 66 coupe |

Another option, to resolve the issue of hurting your stock starter is to get a mini-starter. Smaller and can be stronger as well. Just a thought.

from what I've heard, header wraps cause the pipes to rust quicker.. I never had a prob with the starter going out on my 68 from the headers.. thats usually a chevy prob, they have the solenoid mounted on the starter instead of on the fender like a ford..
ceramic coated headers would help keep the heat down.. but cost alot more.. a heat shield would be next... wraps should be the LAST thing to try.. IMO anyway ;-) ------------------ 84 convt,'95 302,AFR's, performer 3.55's, underdrives stock shorties stock cam, 1.7's 14.16@100.08, 255RWHP on a hot day 265 on the mph/weight chart |
