Question

I've never done it myself but would assume that would help with the heat problem. I'll be getting headers soon, and thats what I plan on doing, sorry I couldn't be of more help. (also, watch out for burning plug wires, I hear about that a lot)

They also sell heat shielding for starters. Pg 124 in my catalog. DEI part# 010402
Probably a lot easier than wrapping the headers

Another option, to resolve the issue of hurting your stock starter is to get a mini-starter. Smaller and can be stronger as well. Just a thought.

Cool

from what I've heard, header wraps cause the pipes to rust quicker.. I never had a prob with the starter going out on my 68 from the headers.. thats usually a chevy prob, they have the solenoid mounted on the starter instead of on the fender like a ford..
ceramic coated headers would help keep the heat down.. but cost alot more.. a heat shield would be next... wraps should be the LAST thing to try.. IMO anyway ;-)
