header install question

I bought MAC 1 3/4 equal length long tubes for a 351W which I'm putting into my 89LX. I've read a bunch of articles on how to install them with the engine in the car, but since the engine is out, can I bolt them on now & then just drop it in together?

That may work, but I would never try it that way.
It would just be one more thing hainging off the motor, ready to crush a brake line or something.

I would get the motor in the car, but still several inches from making contact with the K-memeber. This will provide sufficient room to drop the headers in, without having to fight them.

Let us know how it goes.
I may be getting the same headers fairly soon.

I know your doing a 351, but on my 302 I had to feed the steering shaft through the tubes.

yes, the steering rarm feeds through those headers. Like someone said, leave the engine hovering a little above the K frame and then fit them in.

Re: header install question

has anyone ever used a pair of long tube 5.0 headers on a 351w swap? or will it just not work?

It can be MADE to work, but it won't be easy.

It will take extensive heating and bending to get 5.0 headers on a 351w.

Most who have reported trying this, have reported regretting it.
