header wrap?
 

lately i have been having a problem with hot starts. The first start of the day is fine, but if i drive if for a while then turn it off (getting gas) it does not turn over right away. I think it because the long tube headers wrap aroung the starter. Should I wrap the headers by the starter?

I heard header wraps are no good. Eventually the header wrap gets so hot the header just can't take it and starts to come apart and the header wrap ends up being the only thing holding together the actual header. Maybe it will work though since your only doing a portion but beware. This is only what i've HEARD but haven't experienced first hand. Hopefully someone with actual experience will post.

Maybe heat shield the starter instead.

When I had Tri-Y's on the fastback and torino I ceramic coated them and put the wrap on them still tended to heat the starter and it finally stopped doing it when I put an aluminum heat shield on it. Try going to a hardware store and looking for an aluminum sheet. Now if you really want it just to try quick and easy without buying anything else than a beer use the the can. http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif
