Default Heater Core Replacement

Hi guys, my heater core just took a crap.

I've got everything going for me- NO A/C!

I know it's easier, but what's the quickest way to fix it?

Help!

Also, how hard it it to just bypass it?

mine was pretty straight foward, i pulled my glove box out then unbolted the dash brace in order for it to pull out about 3 or 4 inches. Unbolted the fan assembly took it out of the way, dropped the heater core housing down as far as it would go and unbolted the heaer core cover and slid it out, remember you have to unbolt a few bolts under the hood on the firewall that are connected to the housing. Good luck, it wasn't fun, but I got it done for free!

Thanks for your reply- I'll probably tackle it this weekend. HOWEVER- I may have to move the car before replacing it. How do I bypass it- do I tie together the two lines inside the engine compartment?

Who's bypassed? What do I need?

USMC302- sorry, but this is completely unrelated, but I saw it in your sig.

Will pretty much any Ford seats fit into my car? Mine are a little ratty, and nasty being old LX seats. I'd like to replace them soon. Do you happen to know what'll bolt in since you replaced yours and may have looked around?

all you need to do to bypass it is tie the two lines that go to the heater core through the firewall together with a fitting and some hose clamps (just use the clamps that are already on there)

Sure, the hoses coming off of the water lines can be connected bypassing the heater core, a lot of people run that anyway that have droped there fan assembly completely for weight. You can get a short hose and run it from one water pipe to the other, ensuring there are no kinqs in the hose so the water will still flow smooth. Good luck, all you will need are you common tools and common sense!

hey Uglyfast, did you say you have no A/C? i have never seen a 87-93 5.0 that didnt come with A/C. got any pics? curious.

Sorry about taking so long to post, I went out of town, anyway, I know that most mustang seats are swapable throughout all years, It took a little modification for the new seats in my 88, but nothin to hard at all, the rails on the seat are uneven and I had to add lots of washers and long bolts to even it up but it worked and they look awesome.I actually saw an article in either 5.0 or MM&FF about doing it and knew prior it could be done. Good luck though!

I know that '87-'88 GT's could come with No A/C, manual crank windows and manual door locks because i've seen a few personally. Pretty interesting. Although it sucks that they got rid of that option. I saw a "base"model '88 GT not too long ago that was weird because the door panels are just slightly different, so it threw me off. i believe that '87 and '88 were the last years where you could order T-tops as well and i believe they were phased out early in '89 model year as well.
Just some useless info.

Another thing about the heater core:
My heater core, took a dump as well and unfortunately,
my chilton's book explains replacing a heater core in a non-A/C vehicle to be harder because in A/C vehicle it says to remove the evaporator plenum to gain access to be able to remove the heater core, whereas i don't know how you'd do it in a non-A/C car. Although Chilton's may be wrong.
Good luck, the way i look at it, one of us is going to be cussing when replacing their core....and the other will be cussing and throwing things
