![]() My 90 GT will start for about two seconds and then die! I recently had the upper manifold off to polish it, but the car ran perfect before the manifold was taken off and AFTER it was put back on about a month ago. I checked the fuel pressure and it would go to 35-38 pounds of pressure. I just replaced the battery also. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank You!

![]() Sounds like your IAC is not functioning. Take it off and clean it or give it a love tap. If the IAC isn't operating, then the car is getting choked at idle. Does it only do it when its cold?????

![]() What have you done to your car recently? Have you been looking at stuff under the hood? Have you disconnected and reconnected things? Can you keep it running if you depress the accelerator? Think back and give us some more clues.

![]() I have been looking at stuff recently but i haven't unhooked anything. If I hit the gas when i start it the rpms shoot up but it still dies right away.

![]() Sounds like a vaccume leak. Cheak ALL the hoses, make sure you got the PCV hose in, and large hose is on the brake vacuume tree in the back. Good Luck

![]() The car did run perfectly after i installed the upper manifold. It sat for two weeks after i ran the car, then it didn't start. I checked all the hoses that connect to the upper manifold and they look fine.

![]() When you try to start it, instead of just letting go of the key, after it cranks over, move it back or forward and see if it stays running. Try moving it a little each way... or when you are driving and see if the car dies. I had that problem and the lock cylinder was bad. It took me a month to find out what it was. At first the car would start and die in 2 seconds just like yours is doing. Then it started dying when I was driving... it was the weirdest thing I'd ever seen. Also when it dies after two seconds, check the fuel pressure and see if it's there. I have a feeling the lock cylinder is bad. Good luck.

![]() Yes, I went through what Godslayer is talking about. There's nothing scarier than your car just dying at highway speed when it's snowing.
Have you done a quick test to see if you have any codes? ------------------ 351W 89 Mustang GT Convertible |

![]() I also thought the car had to warmed up to normal operating temp. to check for codes.

![]() The quick test just runs a bunch of test before the car even starts. It will give you the codes that just occurred during the quick test and will also give you codes that have been stored in keep-alive memory. If you have a defective or dead system, the quick test should tell you what it is.
It can be stone cold to do the test. Timing and cylinder balance tests are another deal. ------------------ 351W 89 Mustang GT Convertible |

![]() If you have a bunch of keys and your keys weigh a good amount, they can cause your ignition switch to disengage killing the car. Did you ever have problems when the car would seem to die when you were driving? Kind of like a stumble and then it would restart if you have a 5 speed. It may happen so fast that you don't even notice it.
