Help!!!!
We installed a cobra intake on my friends 95 GT. We did EVERYTHING correctly (or so we thought) and now the car will not start. It will crank, and will catch after like 10seconds, but then it will just idle real rough for 3-4 seconds, and shut off. We checked the injectors, the distributor, all the plugs and electronics, but nothing is working. And now, the battery is dead, so the car wont even turn over :( . Anyone know how we can fix it??!? Thanks.

Is the battery dead from cranking for so long? or is it shorted somewhere? Could the distributor be out 180? Could be off just a tooth, too. I just got mine back together a few months ago and the only issue I had was the timing. Then after I got that right, I took off for a test run but forgot to put the spout plug back in. HUGE ERROR. Without actually being able to be there, I'd guess it's a timing issue.
Could you post a couple pictures?? A lot of guys can spot things that aren't just so, with only a picture to look at. |
I agree with SlowGT on the timing thing. Double check to make sure its not 180^ out.

Yeah we checked the timing thing....it's not that....we're totally lost. Any other suggestions? Thanks so far.

How about a large vacuum leak. Will it run longer if you play with the throttle? Did you check the fuel pressure? How about the firing order on the distributor/plugs? I know these sound like silly questions but you have to start somewhere. Keep us posted as to what you find.

That has vacuum leak written all over it.

the rough idling for 3-4 seconds tells me that you have a bad vaccum leak somewhere. Most likely if the motor's 180* out it won't even start at all. Check all the vaccum lines and make sure their all tight.
