Default Help! 308 v 373?

Everyone talks about the 373 as being the best street gear (410 for ultimate hook and go); My question is the stock 273 or 308 (I don't know what I have) on my 92 is unquestionably quick "enough" off the line - but what will I gain and lose if I go switch to the 373?

Thanks!!

3.73 will have you higher in your powerband in any gear compared to 3.73 or 4.10's. also will be easier to start off and smoke the tires if you feel like showing off!

your gear set-up really depends on your tire size, transmission type...c4, aod, or manual, and what you are hopeing to accomplish. and if you are running an automatic trans, are you running a converter? decide what you want the car to do, and how you want to drive the car befor you decide to change the gears. But over all a 3:73 is a good street gear. The jump from a 2;73 to a 3;73 is quite noticeable in a c4 or a manual trans, however my experiance with an aod and a 3;73 was not really abunch, unless already in the power band...also, you really need to know what camshaft your car is running to determine the power band characteristics, and match the gear to it as well...its kinda like science, but when you find the right combinbation for your car and what you want to do with it...look out.

Ahhh, one of my favorites......

"Don't Fear The Gear!"

Rear end gears are just what peace said, they all depend on what you want the car to do. What tranny are we talkin about here? C4? go 3.55 AOD? go 3.73 T5? Go 4.30, and don't look back!

The rear gears will get you in the "azz dyno", FOR SURE! If it's not a drag car, you really won't notice much performance loss, but make sure your head rest is bolted on good!!!!

Generally speaking, you can handle LESS gear (higher number) than you think you can, especially if you have an OD.

All depends on the tranny dude, so fill us in!!!

I think I'll go with 4.10s for my setup, I don't drive mine that much so when I do I want to reaaly feel it.

Its a stock manual tranny. Also, everything on the car is after market bolt on except for the block and piston. Cam is a lot bigger and running nitrous. 373 will scoot a lot better, huh? What about top end? I would still like to race people to the airport.

I went from 3.08 to 3.27, and now my favorite ratio 3.90 really does good for me, fith gear actually pulls pretty good, on my 26 inch m/t drags, It almost hits the rev limiter on the topend in 4th gr in the 1/4, so that's why I didnt go with the 4.10
My ultimate dream wheelie 1.4 60' will probaly be done with something like-
A spool, 4:30 gears and a 28 inch slick......
