For starters, you need to attach a vacuum pump to your booster, and see if it holds vacuum. If it does, then you need to add an additional vacuum can to keep enough vacuum for your brakes to function. This should help your idle as well, but it sounds like you have other issues. You need to start at one end, though, and fix things in order. Start with the suggestions I've made, and post your results.
