Unhappy help! differential leaking

The differential on my son's '89 GT started leaking. We replaced rear gasket and it still leaks. Torqued properly, etc. Should we just use silicon and forget the gasket? Does the front seal frequently go out (no oil on universal joint)? Thanks in advance.

The differentail housing seal is usually not a problem when installed correctly, as you state you did.

Since it hasn't worked; take it off, scrape and clean the surface then try straight silicone sealer. You have nothing to lose (but more gear oil) at this point.

is it leaking from the front or the rear of the diff? if you changed the rear gasket correctly, it wont leak guaranteed. Make sure its not the front seal. Get the whole pig cleaned off totally like with a pressure washer and engine degreaser and not the origin of the leak. If it is the front seal, thats simple too.
