Exhaust leak?
Last week a chirping sound started to come from my 289 2V '65 mustang. I asked around, and was told that it was probably the exhaust manifold gasket. I spent all of today taking off the manifolds and replacing the gaskets only to have the same problem, except it's much louder now. If I put my hand somewhere around the 2 or 3 cylinder exhaust ports, I can feel an air leak, but I don't know where it's coming from. Any suggestions as to where it may be coming from? Thanks, Oscar

A old trick is to pour some oil down the carb when running, smoke will pour out from the leak. Keep us posted. |

I have headers on my car but once burned a hole right through the pipe and made a whistling like a vw or something. Anyway I've always had problems getting the exhaust gasket seal on the bottom of the ports and am getting better at sealing them by first using a good copper gasket or at least the "Ultra Seal" and some really high temp silicone and don't fire it up before it cures. My port leaks usually sound like bad lifters and have replaced many good sets before wising up.

Thanks for the help guys, but we were all wrong. Apparently, either my temp gauge isn't working properly or the guy I bought the 'stang from overheated engine, and so the heads gasket ripped and started the leak.
