You can solder new wire where it's cut, just be carefull and make sure you're using the same gauge of wire. Do not use smaller gauge wire period. Get some shrink wrap and overlap a good 1" on both sides of the solder splice, this will ensure a tight connection. Slide the shrink wrap over the wire before you twist the connection, and keep it away while you solder the connection. Once the connection is cool, slide the wrap over the connection and work the soldering iron over to shrink it down.
