Talking Hey 2FastLX hows your T-5, mine is trashed big time....

Well we got it open last night and this is the last major thing I need to do to get my car running, and it wasn't pretty at all. The input shaft is toast it has a couple teeth left (4 to be exact) and the cluster gear that is below it, sometimes called the counter shaft it non-existant. You can't tell it was a gear their is no teeth at all. When we poured the fluid out of the bottom it looked like melted metal....guess I need to call D&D and order the $189.00 cluster gear, everything else looks nice.

This sounds like an engineering flaw. Everyone that I know that has T% trouble has the same gears go out.

Isn't there a way to rebuild a T5 with a better input shaft and cluster gear? I know you can get the hardened input shaft, but what about the cluster?

Too much to list. Best ET on the car so far with stock 2.73 gears - 13.73@102mph

T-5's weren't built with POWER SHIFTING in mind.

After talking with Don Jr. at D&D he said that if you break the imput shaft you need to replace the lower cluster gear, so they mesh correctly or you will wear it out and break. The Tremec's work in the same fashion. I have the updated shaft but I think if I went with a Cobra imoput shaft and bottom cluster I could get a roller bearing for imput shaft and get more preload, which may help.
