How high is too high?
I'm looking at a 91GT with 160,000 miles on it. The body and interior are in good shape. The engine is more or less junk and the transmission is find. I don't care about the transmission and engine though. He wants 2500 for the car, buy or not buy?

Is the engine running or not? Can you sell it(the motor) for $500 to someone in a bind or is it worth $200 for someone to rebuild, or are you going to rebuild it? My first impression is that the price is high, but if you have a donor engine and you can make a few bucks off of the motor in it(running) it's not so bad. But if the motor is "junk" literally, like it doesn't run, than the price is high for him to be asking with that mileage on the car. It would be like buying a 12 year old rolling chassis with 160,000 miles on all the parts in it for $2500. I don't know, IMO it would have to have real nice paint.

The motor is not the main thing to worry about, it's the rest of the moving parts that most ppl over look. (rear end, alxes, spindles, suspension parts, etc....) Even if you did get the car, you'll end up rebuilding/replacing the motor anyways. That's a lot of miles for that year of car. IMO: I wouldn't get it for that price. It's too much money for the condition. Your going to wind up having to rebuild everything anyways....

Damn, man, thats a ripoff. I picked up my 91 gt in MA in the middle of summer (sports car season) with 127,000 on the clock hummimng like a humminbird for 3,500. With a blasted motor, I wouldn't give more than 1700 if the motor doesnt work

Too much, I paid $1k for an 88GT with a knock and below average interior, everything else was perfect.

I bought this 93 GT in september of this year for 3 grand. It runs great came with underdrives , new tires, spotless interior, flowmasters and he was the original owner. He had the back packed with 4 years worth of 5.0 and Mustangs and Fast ford mags, everything to do a tune up including synth oil and all maintanence records. I kid you not I drove straight from his house to the car wash and a guy tried to buy it off of me there for almost twice what I paid for it! But it was exactly what I was looking for.

I don't know if mine is weird or anything, but it has 155 miles on it. And its tight as hell. No squeaks, rattles, nothing. I finnaly pulled the trans for a rebuild this summer. Engine burns no oil, I don't even check it between changes. It ran a altitude corrected 13.50 too. I also have to sell the dam thing because we're having a baby. Ever see the trunk in one of these things? lol. Can't put a two-four in there, never mind diaper bags!

I paid $1000 for my 87 LX 5.0 with no engine or tranny. For $500 more I could have had the good running 351W and c4 that was in it. I normally never pay more than $500 for a car that doesn't run, but I've always wanted a black car and I love T-tops. Plus, when I really started looking for a mustang, they all dissapeared! I bought one, and suddenly they were for sale everywhere.
$2500 sounds like an awful lot.
