Carb Woahs

Recently the carb on the 72 started acting up and we figured wed just take it in and get it rebuilt. Well now the carb is running even worse and they screwed up the carb. So since its the original carb most people are saying its not worth fixing. So i was wondering what type of carb would work the best on this car. Its a 72 Mach 1 with the 351 4bbl cleveland. Id like to get a carb that will give really good driveablility, even at the cost of a few HP. I heard the carter afb/edelbrock would work good. But what do you guys think would give the best results.

Personally, I would choose a 750 CFM Holley or Road Demon. The vacuum secondaries make for good drivability. If you leave the 351C completely stock, you probably could do with a 625-650 CFM carb even. If you mod it much, I believe you'll want 750 CFM for the 351C.

I have a 625 cfm (I think???) road demon that I really like on the Mustang
I have a 600 holley that I like on the 355 el camino. Its an 1850 series. I'd recommend either. The road demon costs more, but its cooler.

Get a Holley 3310. Best overall carb ever built for the buck for a 350 or larger, IMO.

Take care,

carb

I got rid of a autolite carb on my 428 and went to a 650 edelbrock with electric choke. When I was looking at carbs someone asked me if I was going for speed or just plain driveability. If you are looking for a good soild carb that wont suck gas too bad then go with a 650, its a good balance between power and milage. If you are looking to do mods on your engine down the road and mileage isnt that big of a deal to you then go bigger. The 650 I got was around 200.00 and worth every penny.
