![]() I have a vic jr. intake with a 750cfm hp carb. It looks like I have about 1" for the air cleaner or it will hit the hood. Does the victor jr. intake sit up high or something? Now what?

Thats how I solved my clearance problem. ![]()

![]() mine is not carbed, but my Vic. Jr. EFI intake sits a lot higher then the stock one. I'm gald I have my taller hood or I would of run into bigger problems. I want to sell my hood and get a 4" cowl though. I can't make up my mind if I'm going to or not....

![]() I don't want a new hood because I want the car to look tame. I think I will just look for a very low profile air cleaner and stuff it under there.

![]() Have you set the vicror jr. next to a performer or most other intakes, it definitely sits higher.

![]() Heres something to look at. ATI procharger or K&N makes a Bonnet that sits atop the carb.
Here is a quote from Carb Bonnet Page A modern bonnet manufactured by ATI and supplied with Procharger systems for carbureted applications. Two variations exist, one has a 3 inch inlet and funnels down to 2.75 inches tall, the other has a 3.5 inch inlet that funnels down to 3.25 inches tall. These retail for about $150, feature a single nipple, and mount to 5 1/8” flanged carburetors such as the modern AFB’s and Holley 4150’s. ATI also produces a bonnet which is exactly the same as the K & N Bonnet (below), the only difference being that it has the logo ‘Procharger’ instead of the ‘K&N’ logo. Here is the K&N bonnet ![]() Never in the field of human history as carb bonnet been misused in application as the K & N carburetor bonnet. This was designed to allow the remote mounting of an air cleaner in situations of limited hood clearance, which it does very well. However its general availability and relatively cheap price ($100) hs resulted in it being used in many blow through super and turbo charged applications, which it doesn’t do very well. The bonnet seals against the carb and can hold the McCulloch/Paxton pressures, but on the downside it restricts air flow, and results in a notable pressure drop at the carb inlet. I would get one of those, since it works so wel lfor hood clearance problems as you have. and get a march kit, You might have to fab your own pip from the filter assembly on fender well to the intake bonnet but that could be done easily. Bradley

![]() might try a factory 84-85 aircleaner setup.. but I doubt any will clear without restricting airflow.. DONT get one of those chrome triangle things.. they suck...
what about an early 80's stock hood scoop, and cut a hole...

![]() Adding the older style scoop ads about 2.5 inches of hood clearance for the air cleaner by the time you cut the brace on the bottom side of the hood and cut the hole through the hood. My buddies big block car has a scoop in it like that, the air claner seals against the bottomside of the scoop. So he has no "Lid" persay.

![]() call me cheap call me just plain stupid but i solved my problem by hitting the hood with a hammer lol, talk about trying to cram stuff under the hood. But i just bent a the bar that goes across under the hood and luckly i made enough room for my aftermarket efi intake.

![]() Cut part of the hood brace off. Or put a 80's model scoop on it.

![]() when I bought my hood, it was used, and had an 83 reverse scoop on it, but no hole in the hood. Then i got my Performer RPM intake and it did not clear, so i just cut a hole under the scoop.

![]() You could consider drop solid motor mounts. They give you about 1/2" additional space. holcomb motorsports $69
And also consider a drop profile air cleaner, it drops your aircleaner about 3/4", summit racing.

![]() I here ya , I really do. When I put my vic jr on my windsor in my comet, I thought I just couldn't do it with a flat hood, which I really like, enough that I would have put the torquer back on if I couldn't get it to work. I used a k/n droped base 14" round unit. Its so low the vent tubes put dents in the lid! (make sure they're cut at a angle), if the hood closes with out a air cleaner, I think this will work for you. Good luck!

![]() Thanks guys! I think that I am going to try the K&N droped base. I don't want a scoop on my car, and I can't drop the motor 1/2" because it will throw the motor plate out of it's mounting location.
