How accurate is that analyzer?

It said I had peak horsepower of 237 and an average hp of 255. I take this to mean I really need to get my driving skills down and better tracyion (I just got Nitto D/R's). It also said I should be running 13.7 in the 1/4 and my best so far, though I haven't gotten a really good run together, is 14.08 @ 99.26. Have you guys found the analyzer to be accurate and does 255hp sound right according to my sig.? Is that at the wheels or flywheel?

I believe the mustang analyzer figures are closer to flywheel hp even though it states them as rwhp figures. Based on my race weight being 3450 with a 128mph trap speed it says my average rwhp is 560 hp. No way!! Sounds pretty close for flywheel figures but even then it sounds a little high. Just my opinion! With your mph mid to high 13's should be in reach with some good driving and traction.

Any horsepower calculator that uses an E/T and trap speed is never going to be exactly accurate. You wont' ever be able to tell exact peak horsepower without dynoing an engine. The reason is, with a time, distance, and speed you can get average HP used to accelerate a certain car (weight). But your horsepower obviously changes while the RPMs change. Depending on the computer you use, the average HP is accurate. The peak is nothing better than an educated guess. (Because they have no idea what the HP curve of the car is, or shift points, etc.)

It seems like the analyzer is accurate if you use car weight without driver and rear wheel horsepower.

Tom: For example an 89 LX in stock form is 3050-3100 lbs. Rwhp given a 15% loss in hp would be about 191. Plug these numbers into the analyzer you get 14.67 @ 92. These are typical numbers for a stock LX.

Now your car in current form with rollbar, supercharger and aftercooler is closer to 3200 lbs. Substituting 3200 lbs and a trap speed of 128 mph gives 462 and 523 hp. Using the higher hp number (523 and a weight of 3200 results in 10.65 @ 127. Your 11.1 was with DOT slicks; with ET drags you'd have a 10 sec pass. So the analyzer looks fairly accurate in my opinion using use car weight without driver and rear wheel horsepower.

I knew my exact weight and MPH on a pass once, and now I run dead on- actually my ET is a little better than projected by the analyzer. It says I have roughly 270HP (and i too think these are flywheel numbers, not rear wheel) and a guy that has the same setup as me dyno'd 235rwhp, which is about 270FWHP. I dyno'd 188rwhp in 3rd gear on a mustang chassis dyno, but corrected from my torque graph and 1:1 ratio in 4th, it turned out that I should have also had 235rwhp. I think they are a good thing to give you an idea as to where you might be. I never thought that the projected times and MPH it stated were unobtainable, but with traction and good driving I have matched them like I said.
