![]() I am going to the track tomorrow and want advice for max safe timing advance. I set the Steeda TA @ 11 deg in the summer heat, now it is in the 40's and 50's here. I have re-set it at 13 deg and plan to run a 75 shot. I will also add NOS octane booster (blue bottle) just to be safe. Anyone think I need to worry about detonation? Will I have any warning to back off timing before I break something? This will be my first run with Nittos and Tokicos, I am hoping to hook up alot better than my previous runs on the stock tires (a sorry, tire spinning 13.8- but at 107 mph). With the Tokicos set at 1 the front end raises up nicely when I punch it. The air here is killer-any guesses on ET? I'll post them this weekend. Also, what will be best- full tank of gas and spare tire removed or vice verse? Tire pressure?

![]() Retard timing advance 2 degrees per 50 hp of increase.
With the mph your running looks to be high 12's, course if you dont spin off line you may pick up another 1-2mph. I'll guess you run 12.75-80. I personally run with 1/4 or 1/2 tank gas, remove spare tire(well I remove lots of stuff ![]()

The 2 deg of retard for every 50 hp is the standard answer that I have seen on many posts but what I am really trying to figure out is can I get away with 13 deg in the cold weather? Stock is 10 deg. I ran 11 deg in the summer with the 75 shot with no probs. Using the rule you cited, I would theoretically need to retard the timing to 7 deg? (10 is stock minus 3 for 75 Hp). My car runs so well with the timing at 13 off the bottle, I would love to just leave it there! I've read posts of people running 14 deg of timing with 100 shots on stock modular engines with good results.
