How to advance the timing?
90 LX 5.0. I was wondering how much I should advance it, some1 told me 14-15...I asked my friend...he said that was twice as much as you should even push it.lol well I dunno if someone can tell me how much and HOW to advance the timing that would be good. thanx.

I've heard that 13-14 degees was good, and the timing it set at 10 degrees BTDC, so...I'd say try advancing it two degrees, drive it, advance it another degree or two...

stock is 10 and some cars actually ping there, dont know why. most guys run 14-15 degrees for racing only, then put it back to 10-12 for street driving. 14-15 degrees requires premium fuel to avoid detonation, usually.

with my mainly stock 94, I ran around 14* at first, and it was great, but, as summer approached, and I started using air-conditioning, and driving home (550 miles) more often, passing trucks on the highway started to cause pining, so I backed it down 2 degrees..
funny this now is that it revs faster, and feels stronger @ 12*.. my thought on this is that since you letting the piston travel that little extra bit up the cycle before firing occurs, it isn't putting as much stress on the components, and its revving better.. And, I believe our engines have knock sensors, that tell the computer to retard the timing... so, even if you're only pinging a bit, you could be losing performance.. (can anyone verify this for me??) I don't know if this is right, or not, but, if you find 14 degrees is good for you, no ping, try 12, 12.5, it should be great ! ------------------ 94 GT (triple black) K&N, FMS 9mm, FMS 95 17" Cobra R's, Aluminum Driveshaft, 3.27, 12* timing, MSD Coil, 180* thermostat, MAC Shifter/Gauges/Pedals, Euro Clear Projectors & Corners My CAR! Thanx guys...I'll probably set it to 13 or 14...but now...HOW do I advance the timing. I know how but there's a problem...there's no timing tape! so what the **** do I do?
