i got my car together and i took it for a test run completly forgeting to put the tranny fluid in ive had fluid in it before so it was coated a little and i didnt go more than a mile or two without it than i put it in did i **** up the trans or shorten its life

You didn't do it any good !
How were you driving it ? Were you gettin on it or just cruisin ? If you were loading those gears really heavy when they were dry, you could have done some damage to them ?? ... is the tranny making any more noise than it was before ?
