Thanks, Adam

What type of flowmasters did you but on? Flowmaster makes 1,2,3 chamber mufflers. 3 being quiet 1 being really loud

dinomite 07-21-2001 01:50 PM

ya, which ones did you put in? if you put in 3s, 1s should do. why do you want it so loud?

dirtyGT 07-21-2001 04:57 PM

If you want it loud i will tell you what my friends stang had on it when he bought it.Strait duals with flowmaster 2 chambers with the ends cut out.Man it was loud but it sounded good but i dought it helps performance much

ya, on a stock or near stock (ie, stock heads), running a straight exh. is gonna lessen performance due to the lack of backpressure. in general, the louder it is, the less obstuctions there are, and therefore less backpressure.

Lytemup, Are you still running the stock cats, and what chamber flowmasters did you buy?

Thats a good point. What do you people recommend one do for a stock motor when it comes to exaust?

withamc 07-21-2001 09:55 PM

When mine was stock a 2-1/2" H-pipe and 2 chamber Flows helped a lot. But I've noticed that a stock motor with a loud exhaust sounds, well, loud. Not mean but loud. Once you get heads and a cam it sounds mean. Now I'm running 3 chamber Flows and I like it better than the 2 chambers - it doesn't have that obnoxious drone at 2000 rpm anymore.

Yeah, cutting the pipes off from the mufflers back will will make it sound louder.
My girlfriend is sitting here with me and she says "It will make the car ALOT louder".

untamed351 07-22-2001 08:55 AM

i have 2 chamber flowmaster H-pipe w/ high flow cats and long tube headers. Its quiet at idle and loud enough for the street at wide open throttle.

moponys 07-22-2001 10:41 PM

If flowmasters aren't loud enough, get a Bassani x-pipe with or without cats depending on where you live. If that's not loud enough, get a cam which will really make your ride sound like a race car. I listened to someone drive my car and get on the gas for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it was really really loud fast sounding with the pipe and cam.

H-pipe sound better in my opinion and not to mention it's louder. I know about the 2hp difference and the $100 plus price difference too. I run full tube headers to an off-road h-pipe into some loud *** hooker mufflers. I had my car at anderson motorsports and they were asking me what kind of mufflers do I got other then loud. They sounded not too bad on my stock car but once I got a cam and heads those things woke up. The good thing about them is at idle and low rpm's they will sneak you into your house at night. Be warned these things can be heard a mile away at full throtle or at least it sure as hell seems that way.

no mufflers!!!!!!!
i dont know if my car has a different cam or something, but it sounds bad *** with no tailpipes. just be willing to give up the stereo, unless it is louder than the exhaust will be.

mine, with nothing after the h-pipe, rumbles so low at idle that it gives me a headache.

also, keep a spare bottle of tylenol.

Want it louder? You need 2-chamber flowmasters and off road h-pipe.

Want it super loud (but doesn't really sound like Cobra, is kinda annoying after a while, and isn't good for your car), bolt on off road h-pipe and remove tail pipes, mufflers--not recommended though.

Wanna make your car louder. Take off your mufflers and rear tailpipes completely. That'll give it a loud, deep tone http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

A relatively cheap, but effective, way is to get flowmaster 40 series (2 chamber) and gut your cats. Mine sounds plenty loud like that.

From all the people that drive Mustangs in my town, I think I have one of the loudest. I had stock headers, with a 2 1/2 H-pipe with 2 flushed cats, Dynomax Super Turbos, & 2 1/2 tips. It sounded ok but quiet. NOW, I have 1 5/8 long tube Hedmans, same H-pipe with no cats, Dynomax race bullets, & 4" tips, & it's "F***ING loud." At idle, it sound almost like a dragster, & when you give her, she roars like a race car. Find a picture of a Dynomax Race Bullet if you don't know what it looks like & then you'll know what I mean.

Go w/ open headers....remove everything from your headers back - it'll be tremendously loud. J/K. My 2-chamber flo's were one of my first mods - they sounded nice then, really nice now after all my mods.
