how to disable the egr system?????
best way to disable the egr system is?
|
i have heard that it creates more problems than its worth, but i would think if you were gonna do it just make a plate, or do what i did and just silicone the gasket on backwards. i have a programmable computer with mine so i dont know if it would have caused any problems or not. i have heard you lose driveability though, maybe someone will post different.

It would have to be done by using an aftermarket chip or piggyback programer, which may have the option of turning off various sensors like EGR. I have my EGR shut off via Autologic chip from Swanson's Performance. This way the computer won't recognize this sensor missing and affect tuning in any way.

I just ordered a kit (like 2 hrs ago) that comes with a "cap" for the elecrical plug that tricks the computer to thinking that the egr valve is still hooked up. You will not get a check engine light. I made a small block off plate but since the harness is disconnected, I am having some drivibility problems.
Every other "EGR eliminator kits" just come with gaskets/studs/ and a plate. But no way to fix the problem with the computer. This kit has fixes that problem. |
I guess I'm in EGR mode tonight. You can check my response on thread "barely idling - Please Help."
Basically, as far as I'm concerned, there's no benefit to removing the EGR setup. If you do it though, and want a cheap way to avoid the check engine light, leave the solinoid that controls the vacuum to the EGR in place, as well as the EVP (mounted on top the EGR). You can then just cap off the inlet that comes from the exhaust. The EGR will still open and close as it's supposed to, but nothing will be entering the intake. You will get a code 85 for another part of the emissions system, but this does not trigger the MIL and doesn't impact driveability. |
