How Do I Remove My "C" Clips in an Auburn?
I am stuck. Trying to install new axles and I can't seem to get the C clips out. I've pulled the pinion shaft but now when I push in my axles, there is not enough room to get the clips.
Do I have to compress that 5 spring package in there and remove it to get the C clips out?? Please help! I am STUCK!

TTT please!
I have now tried a set of 90 deg. picks. I can get the c clips to slide around but in no way can I seem to get them to move out or any other way that spin around and round.... Really need some help here. Getting ready to pull the whole rear end out and have someone help me with it. Any one in N.E. TN that can spin over and help me get out these C clips????

Check to see if there is a pick up for the ABS on the backing plate, if there is this has to be removed "BEFORE" you can remove the C-clips. Romoval of the ABS pick up will allow you to push the axles in far enough to remove the C-clips.
Good luck! |

This is on a '93 coupe- no abs anything.
I found out that my problem was that the axles had to be hammered in (gently- with my deadblow hammer). That was IT. Now I can see them but they are a little hesitant to get pulled out with a pick. Going to try to use a pair of long needle nose pliers to get them. Then it is time to change the bearing and seals and slide in the new axles.

Sounds like you figured it out. But, yes, you need to push the axles in so that it exposes the c-clips. I don't remember needing to use a hammer though. Mine just pushed in real easy. After they are pushed in, I just used a standard Craftsman needle nose plyers to gently grab them and pull them out.
Hope this helps, E
