how fast is an eclipse with a stage I blower?

any idea how fast this is. has full exhaust, air intake, and a stage I blower. apparently he think sit can run 12's or 11's. can it?

88fivepointoh 08-30-2004 03:04 PM

Yep it can. I have seen it.. Is it a v6 or the 4cyl? Either way I have seen it.. Those little imports can Rev pretty quick, But they can't stand up to the abuse..

GhettoPop 08-30-2004 03:47 PM

whats an eclipse? never heard of it

88fivepointoh 08-30-2004 03:58 PM

Mistubishi Eclipse, Import Rice Burner

jimdrechsler 08-30-2004 04:17 PM

i think its a 6 cylinder. looks like i have my hands full then, but he has no traction. i took a ride in it a few days ago and it seemed fast but you never know until you are actually racing. we'll see.

88fivepointoh 08-30-2004 05:12 PM

what does the car look like, I bet I seen it, i'll let u know if its fast... There's alot of them around here but there all show and no go.

Fat0eknee 08-30-2004 06:34 PM

is it a gsx?

Fat0eknee 08-30-2004 06:35 PM

wait ..nm gsx's are turbo not supercharged - my guess is its slow :D

88fivepointoh 08-30-2004 07:05 PM

those Eclipses are pretty quick with super chargers, On a modified 5.0 it won't smoke you, but on a bone stock 5.0L it will take you no problem..

That eclipse if it is a 4cyl should go 14.5 to 14.0 if it is a 6cyl it should go 13.7 to 13.0 depending on traction. If it is a 4 go for it if it is not spend more money then go for it

jimdrechsler 08-31-2004 08:41 AM

88- it is black with a carbon fiber (brownish) hood. looks nice with red painted calipers too. my brother is friends with him from the gym. prett nice guy as he did all the stuff to it by himself and admittedly says he doesnt know what it runs (just what he heard it should run). he and my brother are going to log cabin this wednesday (I hope to make it if i ca show up to a party late). look for a brnad new triumph bike and the eclipse. if im there, i have a dark blue stang with no badges.

poon, i see we have the same kit, what do yo urun in the 1/4? also, what is your Fp at and timing? do you get a pop at all? a lot of blow by with oil in the rear main swal from pressure? just curious. thanks,

jim

Dark_5.0 08-31-2004 10:02 AM

If it is the newest body style then it is a turd.

If it is the AWD turbo version with a few mods they can go high 11's all day long.

Ackbar00 08-31-2004 12:12 PM

I bet it is slower than my SHO...

88fivepointoh 08-31-2004 01:53 PM

What's the guys name? Does he go to baily's in greece?

poonstang90lx 08-31-2004 03:19 PM

I have never run it down a 1/4 but the car went 8.50@87 in the 1/8 on street tires spun the things the whole way down the track.

jimdrechsler 08-31-2004 07:03 PM

88- his name is james and he lives in ER. im pretytyu sure he goes to RAC in the city with my bro. going tomorrow to Log Cabin?

poon- not sure what that equates to in the 1/4. any idea what FP and timing is?

88fivepointoh 08-31-2004 07:23 PM

if i have time I will...

Your quarter mile ET would be: 13.26
Your quarter mile MPH would be: 109.62

Looks like on a good set of slicks you could go low 12's in the 1/4.

gmhatr 09-02-2004 12:22 AM

8.5@87mph

I'm runing 9.4 @ 87 What's up with that.

You most have the most awfull traction problem of all time.

A 9.4 @87mph = A 14.66 @ 109.62mph

My advice to you is buy some slicks you 1/8th mile time should be in the low 8's.

88fivepointoh 09-02-2004 12:55 PM

i think we all have traction problems.. I wish there was a golden fix to the traction issues from these cars besides slicks.

gmhatr 09-02-2004 01:32 PM

ya but the reaction time is .888 and 2.8-3.1 60' time I peel till about mid 3rd gear.

When you make enough HP to trap 109 mph. Slicks are the only answer.

Drag radials are ok but even then you are cheating yourself out of ET.

Reaction time has nothing to do with your ET or mph.

I dont care how much HP you make a 2.8 60ft is drivers error.

Slicks will make you very happy. You could easily pull a 1.80 60ft. Every tenth you knock off of your 60 ft is worth 1 1/2 tenths at the end.

I dont care how much suspension work you do. There is no substitute for slicks.

88fivepointoh 09-02-2004 04:23 PM

i agree about the slicks.. I wish there was another way around it, but yea it is the answer...

200k5oh 09-02-2004 06:06 PM

i honestly dont think theirs even a super charger for the 4G (4cyl eclipse), the 6cyl however does have atleast 1 kit and they are also crawwlin junks. why build the 6cyl when you can do the turbo 4cyl.
if it is a turbo 4, first and second gen either gs-t, turbo fwd or gsx, turbo awd, it can be sitting stock and find 13's with a home made boost controller running 19lbs out of the stock turbo and a few other little things if ur smart.

jimdrechsler 09-02-2004 08:08 PM

his is a 6 banger and he has an intercooler for oil or something. he is getting the stage II for next year. he also has custom headers and full exhaust. looks like its done right. BUT he has no traction! we may go to track next friday for a friendly race.

88fivepointoh 09-02-2004 08:33 PM

go to delta sonic, get the 103 octane gas, and Please PLEASE kick his ass at the track.. Please.. put these import fanatics to bed. please.

bmxmon 09-03-2004 12:05 AM

those cars are running 12's and 13's stock?? Maybe i should buy an eclipse............haha, jk. Thats pretty dang quick though. I would guess though that they are paying a bit more for that then a mustang with mods would. Pretty cool thing about those that my small engines teacher was telling us. He was saying that "rice rockets" as he calls them, have to rev high to burn out, relying on their horsepower to make them spin. Kinda like a chain saw, you have to rev it high for it to cut wood, and keep it high, or it bogs down quickly. On muscle cars, you can burn out in lower rpm because the torque does it. Just thought that was kinda neat.

jimdrechsler 09-03-2004 08:54 AM

yeah the supercharger was like close to 4 grand it hink he said with the headers. i am thinking of getting one as one of my last modifications!! i think i can et a stage I vortech for under 3??

THe kid that owns it is a cool kid. if i win or he loses he wont be one that would make excuses or care really. which is cool!

88fivepointoh 09-03-2004 12:54 PM

Cool beans....

MidNiteBlu 5.0 09-04-2004 01:50 AM

The new ones are POS's. Even with a supercharger I doubt it will run that great.

The older Turbocharged ones are the ones you have to look out for. It isnt uncommon for the Eclipse GSX/Talon TSi's to run mid/low 13's with just minor upgrades such as intake/exhuast and a boost controller.

Back to the original subject, weed wackers in hand.

"How fast is an Eclipse with a supercharger?"

MY answer:

Traction or not, He's not nearly fast enough to play with us.

Fat0eknee 09-04-2004 07:29 PM

exactly unless he somehow got a gsx awd conversion and 18 pounds of boost he wont cause any problems ;)

nastyn8 09-05-2004 03:58 AM

Smoke his ass and smoke it good!!! I hate foreign cars. Especially an Eclipse. I wouldn't piss on one if it was on fire.
Good Luck!

88fivepointoh 09-06-2004 05:50 PM

did u go smoke him yet? what happened?

jimdrechsler 09-06-2004 09:30 PM
