how high can i rev the roller motor safely???
with my current combo and mt ported heads and intake along with my cam and tb i should still be making good power above 6250..if i get a rev extender or some kinda pms or chip to eliminate the stock rev controler(i will control rpm limit by spark via accel box) what can i bring my car up to..my buddy said with his carbed roller motor the guy said 7k is not a problem..also is not comp cams comming out with newer heavy duty lifters for higher rpms????i will not think to rev my car higher than stock cpu will alow until a dyno says i need to but im just asking right now..thanks in advanced

Depends, you have a hydraulic roller cam? I don't think you could rev it much past 7000 rpm using conventional components. Solid roller, no sweat. I have a solid roller SBC (my private shame I know ) but its seen 9000 rpm a number of times.
Comp Cams new magnum hydraulic rollers are supposed to offer much better plunger alignment that allows extended revs. Everything is a give and take in this area! Hmmm. going in one extreme you could try and get better flow from a smaller valve switch the valve material to titanium, along with the retainer and go with the CC magnum hyd roller lifters, make sure your springs and pushrods are matched elements to the rest of the valvetrain, but thats an expensive proposition! Is the carbed guy running a hyd roller? besides the factory rev limiter, an EFI engine could rev as high with the same eqipment (v-train wise), but whats the point if the engine is revved past its useful powerband? Besides with the factory style hyd rollers, things get sloppy that high and start costing power. AFW was suppossedly developing a rev kit for hydraulic roller equipped engines, that made better power because of more accurate valve control. Supposed to be still under development, but I think they canned it because of the scant clearence between the heads and the lifter body or lifter boss? |

I have the stock lifters and rev to 6500 every time I race but have tried to go past that once or twice to 7000 rpm's and I think I am limited by my cam and intake but I dies over 6600. I did hit 7000 but it had no power.
BTW: I have a carb setup. ------------------ James Cox nochevy@hotmail.com 1991 Mustang LX 12.565 @109.38mph 1.764 60ft |

I currently shift at 6250 since I was limited by the factory rev limitier. I am going to 4:30 gears so I should be going through the line around 6350 or so. My car is still pulling when I shift at 6250,m I think I couls get a little more rpm out of it.

My car is dead by 6000.
5000- 306rwhp 5200- 319rwhp 5500- 332rwhp 5700- 323rwhp 5900- 310rwhp 6000- 300rwhp I didnt go past that on the dyno. So maybe your cam wil rev a lot higher than that. But I'd check first to see. ------------------ -1989 Saleen Mustang #406- TFS Heads, E-303, edelbrock intake,70MM TB, 73mm MAF, off road H, 2 1/4" exhaust, and 4.10's. 332RWHP@5500 351RWTQ@3750 Runs on 87 Octane! |

I'm running a Lunatti cam and shift @ 6500-6800 with Hyd rollers. I run out of power @ 7000, Winsdor Jr's are a big stumbling point here. I've got it to 7300 but like a previous post said, it had no power.

btw you gotta love a solid when you have the top end + cylinder pressure to really let it rev. and the idle quality... "yes i am running the stock cam."
