Default How I fit an EFI 351 Windsor under a stock hood...

First off, I know I'm not the first person to have done this, but I wanted to share my experience....

I bought a Pa Racing k-member, and opted for the drop engine mount option, which drops the engine 1.5". We used the HP Racing solid drop mounts, which drop it another 3/4". I bought the shortest elbow I could find (Reichard Racing), then I called Edelbrock and got the measurements from there Performer 5.0 efi intake for a height reference on top of the block (as I could draw and calculate how much I needed to overcome from the deck height) , and also got the measurements for my Super Vic and the elbow and laid it out in Autocad. The 351 block is actually only something like .831" taller in actual top to bottom height than a 302. I have the actual number in my notes at work, so if that number is a bit off, please forgive me. I also went with a "replica" fiberglass hood, which has none of the webbing underneath, gaining some more clearance. When it was said and done, I had 2" of hood clearance! We ditched the drop mounts and are using standard height solid mounts, still with over an inch to spare. I am going to guess that the replica hood was worth a 1/4" in clearance, so even without that, you'd be at 3/4" of clearance. The oil pan is a Canton, p/n: CAN15-690. I also used 8.2" deck height Kooks headers for increased ground clearance, since the motor was dropped so far. We bought the headers in un-coated, mild steel, installed them and "tweaked" to fit and then sent them in to Jet-Hot for coating.

Notice on the last one, the bellhousing is painted red to look like a Lakewood bellhousing to fool the local tech goons! The trans/block/driveshaft were all clearcoated. The underside won't be in show form until I've had it home for a couple weeks. Plans are to dyno early March, probably between the 6th and 13th. Track numbers coming by the end of March...

11Sec_Lx..................Your current set-up is kick @ss but I am more interested in your old set up with the stock short block.

What heads/ cam and intake were you running to go 112mph all motor.

I would like to hit 110 mph with the stock short block but I know I am still a few mods away.

Thanks TMOSS!

<What heads/ cam and intake were you running to go 112mph all motor.>

I had a GT-40 intake, AFR 165's and an E-303 cam. No portwork to any of it. Mac 1-5/8 longtubes, 3-hpipe, Dynomax bullet mufflers, 4.10's, electric fan, march pullies, c&l 73, 65mm t.body, 24lb injectors, 155lph f. pump, only accessory removed is the smog pump. It is possible to go MUCH faster. I wish I would have 1) used a Performer RPM intake (instead of a Holley because you lose a bit more torque with the Holley, and this was a daily driver back then, my only car), 2) FTI cam, 3) 2-1/2" x-pipe, 4) real drag suspension like I have now... I coulda definitely ran 11.50's like that, but, coulda shoulda woulda, ya know!
