Question double hump x-member. Which way is correct

I have an 84 stang with a 351w. I put on a double hump crossmember, but not sure which way it goes on. There is a big hump and a little one. I have the big side on the passenger side, but with my long tubes headers and wanting to put collector extensions on it. The extensions will hit the crossmember. Do I just need to get the pipes bent or is there something else to do to make more clearence? How do you guys have you exhaust ran. I want to have the extensions with Dynomax bullet mufflers. Or will another set up be better. The car is drag only , but I don't want to run open headers all the time.

I had to modify my crossmember on the driver's side to allow the collector on my Bassani longtubes to clear... I wish I could have used a B.F.H. but ended up cutting a section out and building a new hump to match the passenger side... (you've got your x-member mounted correct, btw).

I might be able to capture a shot for you if you can't figure it out, I'd have to steal my sis's digital cam for a few... let me know.

What I did was cut a 3" section out of the inner part of the hump (tranny side), raised the section that mounts to the body to allow clearance, then added a piece of plate steel to bridge the gap, gusseted the sides, welded it all up, ground the edges smooth, add some paint and viola! ...one modified x-member the way it should have been done from the factory, IMHO

Rather than bending the pipes, just keep 'em straight and modify the x-member instead... Allows you to keep the exhaust tucked up closer to the car and looks "cleaner" when you get done... my 2 pennies on the matter.

edited to add: I used 1/8" (.125") plate steel btw...
