Default making an I6 '69 stang fast.

A friend of mine recently bought a '69 stang (coupe) with a rebuilt I6 (#'s don't match). It has a rebuilt automatic transmission. What can we do to make this thing fast, and are there any reliable mustang tuners in south florida. This vehicle is for street use but must be fast. We're willing to mess with everything from nitrous to engine swaps, but would prefer to start out doing things on the cheap. will the old I6 motor take nitrous? or are we asking for catastrophic failure (we're basically thinking of a 50 shot, dry)

I know you can get an aluminum head and a header then have a custom exhuast made. The head and headers are in the Ford racing catolog. But if you really want to go fast defenitly need an engine swap.

Ford never made a racing head, never mind an aluminum one for the I6.

You can do quite a bit with that motor from mild to wild. Check out www.FordSix.com and click on the 'Tech' section. There, you can read all about getting more power from your inline. Then check out the forums, we can steer you in the right direction.

One of the easier things to do would be to buy a crate engine. It will cost a good chunk of money, but nothing outrageous. You can get everything from 289s to 408 Windsor strokers that are race prepped.

All you'd need after that is a drivetrain that can take the power. If you go with a mild street engine, an 8" rear end with your rebuilt auto (I assume a C4) will be just fine. If you go with a bigger engine that makes higher power ratings, you'd need a 9" rear with a built C4 or C6.

Just another idea for ya to throw around....

Don't think so. You must be thinking about the 240/300 series of inlines, not the 144/170/200/250. They are 2 different animals.

Did the head you saw have a seperate intake? If so, it's not for this block, unless it is from an Australian 250 2V head. They were still cast, but the intake was aluminum. The only way to get those is to import one over from Oz. No 'Ford' based organization in this country will sell them, the make all their money on V8 stuff. Speciality places like Powerheads.com or Clifford may carry these.

The only aluminum head for the 250 is from an Australian Crossflow 250, and that won't bolt onto the US block.
