![]() Not sure if i have to be scared. My oil pressure doesn't reach much than the second line on the indicator. My car is 88 GT and every time i'm rolling the needle indicating the oil lamp.
Is this normal? ![]() Does some oil company are better reaching much pressure? Presently i'm using Castrol 10W30 ------------------ ![]() 88 GT, K&N, Home Made Ram Air, Convertible Engine Mount, Dynomax Super Turbo, 180° thermostat, Energy sway bar bushings, Strut tower brace. *** And Risen from the dead *** My GT My Web Page |

![]() The best Oil Pressure level is better found with a mechanical guage. I highly recommend you get one. I love mine. I also prefer Autometer. Ford Motor Comp. recommends 15 pounds at an idle (warm) and 45 pounds at operating temperature while driving under usual circumstances. My 4banger idles with 35 to 40 pounds, and goes done the road with about 65 pounds. When you kick it down of course nothin happens (remember it's a 4banger) but the pressure guage immeaditally jumps to 85 pounds. The first time I did that I was like "Damn the oil pressure". I thought I some how hooked it up wrong and remembered there isnt a wrong way to do it. I called ford and told them they said that was great and I didn't have to worry about haveing a ring down any time soon. Cool huh.

Don't worry about your 4 banger. My brother have one and it's tuned much well than mine. His goal is to smoke me. ![]() You can see his site: Here He teach to me a lot of hint on my car. I think he's believing in Mustang and FORD instead of GOD ![]() So! About my oil gauge. Where is the better place to install it? I've seen a lot of these gauge on mustang show. But these car was classic mustang. About 87-93 . Where is the better place for quick see and no leak. |

![]() I purchased all new Autometer guages(oil press.,water temp., volt, fuel level). I also bought the guage pod for the front pillar and the guage cage tha replaces the air vents. I put the oil and water guages in the pillar pod and the others where the air duct was. I'll try to get some pics up of what mine look like. I really like them, they are bright and easy to see where I put them.

Some pictures. Great i'ld really appreciate. I've seek on the net for gauge cage with vents 2 5/8". I plan to put oil pressure and temp. I'm not sure for pilar. Does it bad for dead angle? There's some place where i can get the cage from autometer. The price is stuck at 39$-43$ (Jegs and summit) Because my interior is grey, does the only one color is black. Does your look like this. ![]() For now i'm not sur for the color of the gauge. There's a fantastic choice at summit. eek! Not sure for the price too. Where do you got yours? Thanks |

![]() White GT,
I have the same problem now and I am not crazy about it now either. I am going with a new pump and shaft. My buddy put a new high volume pump and hardened shaft in his 306 and gets great pressure. When he did his he just loosened the motor mounts and didn't have to pull the motor. He has mechanical gauges and I don't know exactly off hand what his oil pressure is but he likes to brag about it. Good Luck! |

![]() I hate to say this, because it almost always starts a debate, but a lesson I learned during my brief work in NASCAR was that, while higher oil pressure is often desirable, an engine doesn't really require very much. The general rule of thumb is 10 psi per 1000 rpm. If you can maintain that, you will not suffer any engine damage from low oil pressure. What is most important is that you are getting an accurate oil pressure reading, and that can best be accomplished with a quality mechanical gauge.

![]() On my car though, at idle the needle in my stock oil gauge goes all the way to zero briefly. If I rev it up to 1500 it will go to the 2nd notch up. When I shut the car off, sometimes pressure will go to zero and then make a little squealing noise as it shuts down. I realize the screen may be clogged but something is not right.

![]() ...forgot to mention that lately, pressure goes to the middle of the gauge upon start-up and never goes beyond that no matter what rpm it is at. After the oil gets warmed up the pressure level goes to the second notch and does not get any higher no matter how fast I am going or how high the motor is revving. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

the oil pressure is always higher when you start a cold motor (has to do with oil temp and viscosity), as the oil warms it gets thinner creating a lower oil pressure.. factory guages are'nt very accurate. aftermarket is the only way to get a true reading, and depending on the mileage of your motor, low oil pressure on higher mileagew motors, is a Ford trademark... ------------------ Black,84 GT,ground effects, shorty headers, 'open' dual exh.,302 HO(no pollution control crap),T5,89 ported heads, edelbrock Performer manifold, Edelbrock 2122 cam,600 Holley, high volume oil pump... gears (4:10's) coming soon. Thanks for the picture. I don't know why, but i'ld tought about FORD RACING. Today i've gone to my local ford's dealer and the clerk told me some price. If there's the same quality of autometer. I rather going with Ford's. Because i'm living in canada the price i got from ford is very good than other deal in usa and there's awesome. Black housing, white background and the ten letters i prefer on a gauge.... FORD RACING. You told that ford's are lighted. Do they are very easy to read in dark and does they come with the same install kit than autometer. 65.10 CDN for the oil pressure 69.44 CDN for Volt. For the cage with vent this is 82.46$ Remember our monopoly money ![]() DemonGT I've seen on your pics. You GOT OIL, VOLT, and WATER. Does Water is a pain to install? THANKS EVERYBODY FOR THE GREAT HELP [This message has been edited by White GT (edited 07-13-2001).] |
