how much to install a roll cage?

I have been wanting to have a 6 point roll cage installed in my '82GT but was wondering hhow much a chassis or weld shop would charge me to do it.
I know the interior has to be stripped, so I could do that myself to save some cash. What would be a good ballpark figure for an installation?
Also, where is a good place to buy a quality cage? Could you give me some websites to check out?

I paid $1300 for a chromoly tig welded 10pt. cage with through the floor subframes. They did a decent job, left me alot of finishing work to do... Gebhardt's in Jacksonville, IL did the work. If I ever do it again with another car, I'll probably drop it off at Racecraft here in Illinois. They do pro cars like Les Baer's old ride and many others as well. Real top notch, high quality stuff and they aren't too far away either!

The cage and setup I am installing will cost about $8-9 hundred
in labour, we install them for customers for an average of $1200 CDN dollars.

Check out the '79 project install going on right now.

I checked out the site already from the '79 thread and liked what I saw...

Especially the NX products!!! I am a firm believer in their product. I currently run the EFI race single nozzle 100-250 kit, and used to run the 75-150 kit on my old combo in '98. No time slips with the new kit yet, should be a few months...

Looking forward to some mid to low 10 sec. E.T.'s with spray!

Yeah the NX products are really great. They are a great addition to our website. I want to run a dual stage with a carb. The setup I had last year was single stage with a carb. We have just added a new product, some nice subframe connectors for '79 up mustangs.

My S&W 8-pt bar/cage was $149 + shipping for the mild steel version. I paid a local chassis fabricator another $160 to fit it and weld it in after I had done all the prep work of stripping the interior and scraping the sound deadener.

Wish I would have gone chromoly now, but we won't go there.

I did the S&W "kit" and modified most every piece...
The kit was $150-ish then it only cost me $700 for a new MIG welder :D

Thanks everyone!!
Drudis, How did you go about deleting your rear seat. It's hard to tell by the photo you have there. Also, I thought cages had to be TIG welded to be NHRA legal?
What is the S&W website?

It took me awhile to figure it out, but now I can post pics.

Man, now I want a roll cage... :(

USMC302 04-03-2002 03:04 PM

me too, I didn't realize it was so expensive though.

82 GT 04-03-2002 04:31 PM

Yeah, it's expensive !! I just called the local chassis shop and they said it would be about $600 and that's if I supply the cage and strip the interior.
I guess I need to find a buddy that can weld.
I knew I should have taken welding at vo-tech school!!!(LOL)

USMC302 you have three sweet stangs, and you say a roll cage is expensive:)

Safety first.

That's funny!!!

Eric4Nitrous 04-04-2002 03:34 PM

Hey 82GT, if you want, I can weld the rollcage in for you. I did the cage myself in my car, turned out real well!! I did a Pro Stock type cage in mine, but I can do whatever you want me to. I'll do it fairly cheap too! Let me know.

Eric
