I'm kind of in the process. I have a newer Windsor block i'm building up. I got it back from the shop. It's all cleaned up. It's going back in a few months to get the 428 or 406 stroker kit in it. And then it's coming back home for all the goodies. But as far as price and what its going to take, i'm not sure. My car is already stripped out and under the hood is very easy to work. It's going to hopefully be street legal. I do beleive i have to change the motor mounts but that wont be a problem.

Put that engine in!!! That year was the best year for the 351w. I don't know the HP rating but they came with flat top 10:1 compression and small cc heads.
Are the 4bbl heads? I have a 351w in my '82GT and all I needed was a different oil pan and I used the 302 engine mounts. It drops right in. The $$$ part will come in if you want to keep your fuel injection. I this case it would be easier to use a carb. since that's what the engine already set up for.
That engine probably has about 250-275HP stock....that's only taking a good guess.

Stock, 2-bbl '69 351Ws had 10:1 compression, 4-bbls had 10.7:1. 2-bbl had 250 gross hp, 4-bbl had 290 gross. 335 lbs-ft torque for the 2-bbl, 385 lbs.-ft for the 4-bbl. My engine (which is a '69 351W) has about 360 gross hp. They have alluminum-alloy pistons.

I have plans for myself later in life. After college and what not. Buy a late 80s early 90s 4-cyl Mustang, a POS most likely. Drop in a 408 Windsor from Indy Mustang Performance, or something of the like, and make it a street legal mid 11s naturally aspirated beast. That will be fun. I need to make some $$$ when I'm older though.....

Off the subject a bit, but This guy i know from our local track claims he has "69 windsor heads" on his 91 lx, efi 306 motor, ported stock intake, 4.30 grs, long tubes, 100shot nos, running 11.5@ 117 mph. This car is all over the track, and pulls the wheels on every launch.

Put it this way. If you want the power it's not coming from a stock 69 block. I already researched that. You'll need some heads or headwork (on stock heads)and it's not cheap. I've got over 5K into my motor and have too much stuff to list. Most of the $$ comes with the heads and stroker kit. But don't get discouraged...it can be done. Just do your "homework" and ask questions.

Just an FYI. It's illegal to put an engine in a car that is older than the body style of the car. You can put a 93 engine in a 89 body, but not the other way around.

What? illegal? sheesh...

Anyway, i would say, try for some windsor heads, the porting will cost enough money as it is, unless u got connects, make sure your bottom end is in decent shape..you can't beat a more modern roller 302/351 vs non roller for todays demands, just my .02

It's not illegal in my state to put an older engine into a newer car...believe me..I've done the research. But I can't speak for other states. It's almost impossible to run a carb on a car that came from the factory with EFI and pass smog tests. Porting the heads is a very good idea if you want some power.

Bowtie is Canadian. I think the enviro-nazis have a tighter grip up there.

I don't care what he does. I was just letting him know. I have no idea what they do in Canada. A lot of the people on this board rip out their emissions equipment and later regret it when they can't get it registered. It's just something to consider.

well, way up north (20min north of washington state) a friend had his 90lx, & another friends 88gt(like mine!!) pass the sniffer with no mufflers. there is also somethin special ( i cant tell you or id have to kill you) that i can tell them when i insure my car, so i dont even have to get it emissions checked. there are so many cars that would have "illegal engines" if we brought them to 'merica. remember that 82gt with the 460? oh ya, you guys dont live here, but anyway, it doesnt matter what kinda motor we put in our cars, Bill had a 78pinto with a 69 302 with 11:1 comp. 351w heads borted, & a HUDGE cam. now, i think you guys are gettin whiped by your laws...

no offense to you 'mericans

the swaps fairly easy but a few parts cost $$$ 351 truck distributor oil pan from ford or if you can find a used crown vic one . 69 - 74 blocks are good my curent project is a 84 351 but its complete with a crown vic pan already . you also ned a 351 gt 40 or a aftermarket manifold if you want to keep the efi I'm thinking of a ford 351 truck lower with a box style upper for this motor (plus twin turbo's with these low comp heads we have) and switch the cam while its out still havent decided what im going to go with.
