My Notchback has headers, racing clutch, cold air intake, exhaust, pulleys and runs mid 14s im guessing. But what it really needs is the 3.55+ gears everyone else is emphasizing so much. It really helps 5.0's move. They got stuck with those stock 2.89 (correct me on this) gears.

or you can do a butt load of weight reduction like 88workcar done
I did a little more this weekend, I removed all the front half carpet, the rest of the tar paper, the fire wall insulation, center console arm rest/cubby hole thing in the middle, radio, speakers, dirt, grime, pennies, quaters, ect...

BUT I ADDED A MILLION POUNDS WORTH OF ROLL CAGE ;D

Very cool, your probably looking at 2700 lbs with the cage.

IMO, I do disagree with that, but every car is different. I ran a 14.3@97.46mph with a 2.222 60' on street tires. This was my first and only time to the track. The only things I had done were timing @ 14*, pullies, mac cai, and Tri-ax shifter. This was also on an engine with 160K+ on the clock and 2.73's. Since then I have put on an electric fan and bumped the timing up to 16*. On a perfect launch, I could probably hit a 14 flat.

Now to the original question......With those mods, I think a chip and fpr would be a waste of money. That money could be spent on gears and a shifter or something like that. Bumping the timing is a free mod which I noticed a big difference in throttle response. But with intake, full exhaust, and drag radials. I'd say 13's would be pretty easy. Add the timing bump, right gears and shifter. I think low 13's would be possible. But like I said at the beginning, every car is different. Anyone else agree?

I would definitely say the heads are gonna hold him back from low 13's. From what Ive seen, adding all the bolt ons, even the intake, without touching the heads didnt give that much more power. I just put ported gt40's on my car, along with a cobra intake and a 65mm tb, and even with a bug somewhere and the car running in safe mode at full rich, the car is alot stronger. IMO if you wanna go cheap, dig up some gt40 heads and an explorer intake off a wrecked exlorer and bolt those on. Im not sure of the flow numbers on the intake, but maybe even pick up a cobra intake or something.

negative, i see low 13's every week, not only are my heads stock, but i think the valves are floating, i ran 13.27 with untouched e7's, stock intake, stock tb and maf, also before i installed lower control arms, my intake was iced.
with a slower 60' i was still running 13.5-13.6, i also leave my spare tire in.

i feel confident, with a ported stock intake and gt-40 p heads i can see 12.8 104, with a 1.8 60'.

Wow Coupe5oh, those are sweet times. I know there will be exceptions, such as your engine being up to tune, hasnt been tired out, and being a bad@ss driver. Are those times on street tires?

NotchJohnson 01-02-2003 10:00 AM

Nevermind, just saw in you sig that you use et streets.

88workcar 01-03-2003 07:44 AM

Well my E7s are not stock, the exhaust humps have been removed. If done right E7s will surprize many a man.

NotchJohnson 01-03-2003 09:51 AM

Im am sure they would, I looked at mine when I took them off this past week, how does exhaust even move through those ports? I thought the bump was just a little nub on the top, not a damn mountain. Im thinking of using mine to do a practice porting job just to learn how to do it.
