How to remove front bumper?
I have an 84 GT. I have heard about removing the front bumper to reduce weight. This is a strip only car. My question is for those of you that have done this. What is the best way to get it out? Do you have to remove the nose piece or can you take it out from inside the engine compartment. The engine, radiator, trans is currently out of the car.

you have to remove the nose then take out the fiberglass bumper..the whole unit wil;l prolly net you about 25lbs..after you remove the front bumper cover you have to remove 2 5/8"(i tink) bolts..one from each side..the best way to remove the unit after you take those bolts out(it will be rusted froven in)is 2 jump on it to break it loose firsat then take a nice size crow bar and used the cirved end to keep moving the whole unit up and down and work it out..you will see..it will take about 15 minutes to get the peice out once the nose is off

LX XLR8R is correct, you'll have to remove the front urethane nose piece (easy enough) and on your vehicle (up until '86) mustangs had an actual steel bumper instead of the lighter weight fiberglass bumper on the '87+ mustangs so you'll probably take off 50 to 60 lbs (the bumper is pretty damn heavy!). All you have to do to take off the nose is to take out the bulbs/sockets from the corner lights in the bumper and pull out all the other sockets from the other lights as well as a bracket next to the hood latch and about 5 or 6 nuts on the inside of each fender on the flange.

ciara,
After you get the front back together, take the rear one out as well (unless you need the ballast). Similar set-up. |
