Red face How to run 12's?

Any one out there run in the 12's? I would like to get a few hints. So far I've run a best of 15.57 at 87mph with my 92 GT. It was at LACR with an elevation of 3000ft. Stock motor, 4:10 gears, centerforce kevlar clutch, off-road H-pipe, and 255-15 street tires. 2.260 60' time(not good) and a lackluster 15.87. However, within the next month I'm going to get an A-trim vortech and 26x10" slicks. Where would you suggest I go from here? I also have a 6# powerdyne in my garage, but I'd rather sell it and get the Vortech.

Put the GT on a diet! Find some ways to shed some weight. Sounds like you also need to invest in some aftermarket heads and an intake. My coupe has been in the low 12's naturally aspirated with the AFR heads, Cobra intake, and a few other things. Low 11's with the spray.

well, if the A trim and slicks are on their way, i dont see why you wouldnt run 12's as is, but michelle has a good point. im all about losing weight off of my car. you could start by throwing the battery in the trunk. even with the slow 60ft, something seems amiss as to why you are that slow? did you maybe let off before the traps? i realize the elevation, but 87 is not a good trap at all. how much does your stang weigh??? what were you shifting at? driving alone can probly shed mucho et from that mid 15. heads and intake will make a big diff once you are seeing 5psi.

Hey whatsup, Looks like your really close to me. I am in Ojai just a little way from you in Ventura there. LACR sucks. I go out to carlsbad and I ran 9mph better there!! So what does that tell you. Dont get discouraged, Your running mid 14's atleast on a decent track. Anyways seeing your so close and all it'd be cool to check out your car sometime. give me an email or something. Also have you done your timing yet, and is your car in good tune?

Hey Smoked! I would agree w/ Michelle - shed some poundage. Lose the A/C (if it's not a daily driver), the rear seat, get a fiberglass hood/hatch). But anyway, this is how I got in the 12's:

'90 LX 5.0; 12K original miles (no sh*&); 3.55 gears; pulleys; Edelbrock Performer Heads; BBK shorties; MSD 6AL ignition system; Motorsport E303 cam; 75 MAF; 70 TB; Eibach spring kit; Southside sub-connectors; K&N cone filter charger; Hurst shifter; fiberglass cowl hood; A/C-less; rear seat-less; cat-less; Flomasters; Corbeau racing seats (fronts); 12.513 @ 108 mph

My car runs 12.5's and it still got A/C. I just pulled the rear seat, but Im sure it'd still hit 12.5's with it in. I dont think it even lost hardly any weight at all. I just dont want people to have the option to ride in the back

Sorry Sky I sent you an e-mail but I guess you didn't get it. I'll try again. Anyways I consider myself a fairly good driver at launching and shifting a stick. It gets rubber in all four gears. I've just fixed my powerdyne with 6#'s of boost and I'm getting slicks real soon. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I'd rather have a Vortech, but this will do for know. I'm going to try and get up to LACR by the end of this month.
