Default How should I insert preload spring?

My and a friend of mine are in the process of rebuilding his traclok and I'm not sure how to insert the s spring. Anybody have any tips? I'm hoping we can get it back together tomorrow.

Cool

Been there- done that

I normally will get a 2x4 about 2' long, put the spring in between the spider gears set the 2x against it, then smoke the 2x with a good size hammer, once it gets started, you got it.

There may be a better way, but my car was built in the backyard.

everything I've read on em used some kind of something(like a 2X) and involved a large hammer. just be carefull not to lose the thing... I imagine it could take off like a rocket if it was halfway in and got tapped the wrong way.

Thanks for your help guys. I put the spring in a vise and put a hose clamp on it to keep it compressed. We hammered it in and then cut the clamp off. Worked like a charm. The rearend runs like a champ.
