Unhappy HV oil pump interference?

I just installed a sealed power high volume oil pump on my 85 302. When I went to put on the oil pan.....it dosen't fit it hits right on the bottom of the pump. I can have my pan cut and extended down for free to make it fit so it's no big deal, I was just wondering if anybody else has had the same problem? Thanks! -Mark

I put the pump on mine and bolted down the pan. I added oil and found out that the oil pump bolt pushed through the pan. Wow what a leak !!!!!!! You can either grind down the pump bolt or use the stock pump bolt. That should take care of the problem. Dont do what I did. I was lazy and just put RTV around the hole in the pan. I just didnt want to take the oil pan off again. It doesnt leak though.

I have a Melling HV/HP oil pump with a stock pan. I used a hammer to "convince" the pan to fit, I know it's not the best or right way, but it works and doesn't leak. I would suggest have your pan cut and welded or look into an aftermarket pan if you have the money for it.
