I need info ASAP- Anyone use D&D Performance for a tranny rebuild

I am researching the cost of rebuilding my T-5 as some of you may know. I called up D&D Performance and they seem to have the best price around. It's 150 for the labor, 159 for the parts, and 40 for the steel retainer (roughly $350). I was wondering if anyone has dealt with them rebuilding a T-5 before. If so, let me know how your experience was. Thanks, I appreciate any help, Keith.

I've heard mostly good stuff about D&D. I know one guy who had a problem with them, but there was alot of extenuating circumstances with that deal, and it all worked out fine in the end. Go to the Corral and do a search for more info/recomendations.

I have had several T-5's rebuilt by D&D, Both Don Jr. and Dave are top notch guy's, D&D is the only one that will every touch my trans.

They set tolerences the factory don't even set and for free.

Use 'em with no worries.

Cool, thanks!

Thanks for the peace of mind Jay! I was assuming that because I always hear good things about them, that I wouldn't have any problems. It's just their price that surprised me  I called someone local (CA) and was told the labor alone would be 450  Yeah right, rip someone else off! Even Hanlon, who were going to replace the gears with the closer ratio (2.95 1st) gears, replace the aluminum retainer with steel, and rebuild the tranny was only $750. D&D are only going to be replacing the syncros and bearings, and replace the aluminum retainer, but it's only $150 for the labor.
Anyways, thanks! If anyone did happen to have a bad transaction with D&D let me know. Thanks, Keith :D

I did the work myself but I got all of my parts from D&D
they were friendly and very knowledgable and helpful on the phone, Parts arrived in no time and everything was what I needed for the whole job
I would trust them and go back if I ever need more tranny stuff

I'm not all too fond of D&D. The last advice I got from them was when my Tremec wouldn't stay in 3rd under power. I told them I was running Dyson's Synergen and they said that if I changed the fluid to GM Synchromesh that it would probably stay in gear. Well yes, as a matter of fact my name is Mr Extra Stupid. NOT. I will say though, they are extremely friendly and professional on the phone.

I've done all the rebuilds on my Tremec and all my parts came from Hanlon. He also rebuilt my T-5 when I was running it. I know you can't just stop by his shop from CA, but he's less than 2hrs from me and I prefer to keep the business local as long as it's practical.

You can get the TTC service manual for $15-20 and rebuild it yourself. OR you can download it for free here

If you download it, be sure to print it out. It's much easier to follow. Reading it through the adobe reader makes it appear much more complicated than it really is.

Good luck.

There was an article in one of the recent MM&FF where they sent a t-5 to D&D for a rebiuld. It shows the whole process. You might want to take a look.

which issue was it?

I would like to read the article, but I don't have any idea of where to begin to look. Let me know which article, thanks, Keith.

It in the August 2002 issue. "close to you", pages 198 - 201.
They had D&D convert it to a close ratio tranny during the rebuild. I think the main thrust of the article is on close ratio trannys and what improvements they give. It seems like D&D really knows what they are doing.
