Identify these springs...
I recently bought an 86GT that apparently has aftermarket springs in it. For the life of me I can't figure out what they are although I am leaning towards the FMS C springs. They are extremely stiff, so much so that if I push down on either the front or rear of the car I can only move it ~1/4". There is zero body roll and the ride is harsh to say the least. I have nothing to compare to but I'd say the ride height is very near stock. Here are some pictures to help....

update...
I looked over my situation further and have some more info. I was unable to find a number on the front springs but I did find a number on the rear springs. E5SC-5560-AA. How the hell can I find out what springs these are :). The car also has Tokico "Blue" shocks and KYB quads on the rear. Both look to be in ok condition. The front struts had "Motorcraft" stamped on them and looked to be pretty old. I need to find out what springs these are so I can buy some struts. Any ideas guys? Thanks.

You do have a FMS kit. I have the "B" kit not installed yet and the rear springs have the number "E5SC-5560-AA" BUT the rears are the same for the "B" & "C" kits (200/300lb). My front springs have the number "E5SC-5310-KA" on a green tag around the coil and appear to have a little tighter wind (very small difference) on one end and are 450/530lb. The "C" kit will not have this difference in the spacing of the front coils (it's 600lb not variable).
hope this helps!! Brian |
thanks....
That does help actually... now I at least know they are FMS springs. I will look again on the front springs and see if I can find any identifying marks. So your "B" springs look different than the pics I posted? The coils on mine are all evenly spaced so I am thinking they are specific rate. Any ideas? thanks.

Pics didn't show-up here (could be my end), I do see them in other posts though.
My front springs have 9 1/4 turns. I don't know if the 600lb's would have more or less but it should be different. If I had to guess I'd say more. You can try to e-mail the pics. click my user name the adderass should be in there. |

Flyin 5.8: Thanks for replying.
Not sure why the pics aren't showing up but here are a few more. I will also email them to you for comparison. Here is a pic of the ride height, which in my opinion is probably close to or even higher than stock. http://www.geocities.com/loose_henry/images/ffender.JPG http://www.geocities.com/loose_henry...earquarter.JPG Here are a few more shots of the springs. The front: http://www.geocities.com/loose_henry...ontspring4.JPG The rear: http://www.geocities.com/loose_henry...earspring3.JPG Hopefully these will be useful in the comparison. At this point I will be buying a complete Bullit strut/shock/spring setup to replace these springs. It would be nice to know what they are though. Also that ride height is intriguing. Also, do you know if Motorcraft ever made a strut that could handle a stiff spring? Becuase it does have a Motorcraft strut on the front and I strongly suspect it is underdampened becuase the car rides like crap :) |
I've always thought that motorcraft was stock replacement parts and you really don't hear much about 'em anywhere either.
Still don't see the pics, I'll check hotmail tomorrow, but i think theres a 1.5 meg limit. If they aren't there I'll get you my work e-mail. If you can, zip it |
