idle problems
I have ran carbs for a long time, played with fuel inj some.
the problem is when its cold it sounds great and runs good, but when it gets to opperating temp it wants to die when you come to a stop. it always fires right back up and idles but when you take off between shift it acts like it wants to die. plus it seems alittle sluggish and idles like a stock 5.0 instead of like one that has a cam in it. it is 1991 mustang 4cyl car that I switched to a v8 5 spd heres the combo 5.0 stock short block Fpp b cam 1.7 rockers mild ported e7 haeds with over size valves, TF track heat intake, 24lb injectors,75mm TB, 76mm mass air, bbk adj fuel reglator with guage, a9l computer, long tubes mac cat back, 4.10 gears with still the factory 4cly fuel pump. any help would be greatly appreciated. plus in the future I would like to have it tuned on a wheel dyno any recomendations fairly close to southwestern wisconsin. thank you for your time. |

Re: idle problems
A few things...O2 sensors, how old are they? What is your FP at? Is your Mass Air Meter calibrated for the 24lbers? What is your timing set at right now? The fuel pumps might be the same for the 4 and 8 cylinder cars but if you don't upgrade to a 5.0 alternator then you will have fuel flow problems.

Re: idle problems
thanks for your reply
the o2 sensors i got from a freind, he siad they were about a month old he ran them on a turbo car, he took them off becuase he got rid of the turbo set up. they looked almost new when I put in. the fuel pressure is at 34psi with the vac line unhooked. I have the timming set at 14 degrees. the mass air is supposed to be for 24lbs inj its a 76 and I called c&l to get the right tube for it. plus I used the 5.0 alternator. the fuel pumps I don't know if they are the same or not. the other thing is I don't have vac line hooked up to the egr valve or the three solinoids on the passenger side shock tower. but where it comes off the vac tee is plugged with a cap. Thank you Steve |

Re: idle problems
That's the Thermactor Air Diverter Solenoid (TAD). The solenoid is controlled by the EEC-IV computer and provides vacuum to the Air Bypass/Air Control Valve. Which is the smog pump I think. Are you running a smog pump?
