idle what?

I've been working on this problem for a while, whenever work decides I can have my own time. The car has been having troule staying started in the morning, just cuts out as soon as it starts, like your turning off the car. Once its warm it seems fine, till you drive around and it idle high, like in the 1500 or so.

I've changed my tps sensor and cleaned the IAB valve with no luck. So this weekend I adjusted my idle.. . again .. but this time I was figuring maybe the IAB valve is bad.. and I was also thinking who needs a damn IAB anyway.. I'll just adjust the idle without it. So I adjusted it, ran wonderful all day till the next morning... now it takes a little more warming up to keep it going and it idles at like 500 sounds like its got a loped cam.. kinda cool... but then once it gets drven a while it will idle high, sometimes its drop down a bit, but then rise up again... like a light press on the gas. So any input would be appriciated... thanx

What year? What mods? have you tried cleaning your TB? Does it have a MAF? Have you tried cleaning it?

Take care

Couple more questions...
What is your TPS set to? How old is your EGR valve? Have you tried disconnecting it and plugging up the vacuum hose? Any codes from the ECM?

Take care

Sorry its a 93, and yes I've clean out the TB. As far as mods.. its pretty much stock just exhaust and a k&n filter. I haven't pulled codes.. Or messed with the EGR.

Whats a egr valve? it thats whats on the back of the EGR that looks like a fuel pressure regulator?

it sounds like your TPS isn't set correctly. it needs to be set between .990 and .999 volts. assuming u have a volt meter, stick a needle in the green and black wire of the TPS. hook the positive wire from the volt meter to the green wire of the TPS and the black to the black wire. using the 2 srcews on to of the TPS adjust it till u get desired voltage. if that doesn't work check for a vacum leak. hope u find something, good luck!

Don't buy any new parts, but try swapping your idle control solenoid with another one from another EFI Mustang. If you're not sure what it is, it's attached to the throtle body facing the front of the engine, & it has 2 bolts, it kind of looks like a shift light & it's angled towards the driver's side. A new one costs around $150 canadian so before you buy one try swapping one from another 5.0. I hope this helps.

DO NOT set your TPS that high. EVER! That's the quickest way to a serching idle speed, diluted oil, clogged cats, and possibly a damaged ECM. While it is a popular myth that adjusting your TPS that high increases power, there is absolutely no truth to it, and in fact is more dangerous than anything else. Your ECM believes you are driving when the TPS hits 1 volt, and thinks you are idling at anything below that. Setting a TPS anywhere near .99 volts is asking for trouble. There is no noticable difference in performance between .95 and .99, but if you convince your ECM that your driving when you are idling, you begin to have all kinds of drivability problems. Adjust it to .95vdc.

Your IAB could be the problem, but so could the EGR valve. You need to check for codes. Find out what codes are stored, and then do a running test. have a friend help you if necessary. Post the results when you find them.

Take care
